Lily Evans. Untouchable. Untamable. Unstoppable. Beautiful. Break taking. Gorgeous. The one girl James Potter would do anything for.
He had known since the first day of fourth year that he would ask her out. And today…he would do it. He would embrace the inevitable and ask Lily Evans out. No other boy in school had dared ask her out afraid to end up on the other side of her wrath.
James Potter grinned arrogantly. But he was not most other boys. He would ask Lily Evans out and she would blush before admitting that she was head over heels in love with him. The thought shone like a beacon in his heart.
He watched her in Charms class as she took notes with her neat, perfect cursive handwriting. Her best friend said something and she laughed softly. Her red hair fell in waves down her back. Her emerald green eyes were alight with laughter. A soft smile ordained her pretty face as she whispered back.
Lily. James liked that name. He had never met anyone named Lily before he had met her. She was nothing like any of the other girls in school. He couldn't wait to hear the word 'yes' fall from her graceful lips.
Lily Evans and James Potter. They would be the power couple of the school. Beautiful, kind, Lily Evans with her slight temper and her witty banter. Handsome, troublesome James Potter with his amazing Quidditch skills and perfect brains. Any girl would be lucky to have him. Lily Evans would be lucky to have him.
He would be the first to admit he was somewhat arrogant, but he couldn't help it. He had been chosen for the Quidditch team in second year. He was at the top of his classes without even trying. He was the son of one of the richest couples in the Wizarding world. And he was handsome to boot.
The bell rang and James grabbed his things.
"Evans! Oi, Evans!" he yelled following the redhead.
Lily turned and rolled her eyes. "What do you want, Potter?"
Undaunted, James caught up with her. "You look beautiful today, Lily," he said using her birth name for the first time.
Lily raised her eyebrows. "Is that all?" she asked.
He grinned and shook his head. "Well…Lily…I was wondering if you would go to Hogsmeade with me on Saturday."
Lily looked surprised and James waited for the inevitable answer. The inevitable 'yes'. "No," she said simply and then proceeded to walk away.
The grin on his face fell and he followed her. "What?" he demanded.
"I said no, Potter," she said. "Now, if you wouldn't mind, I need to use the loo," she opened the door to the girl's bathroom and disappeared from his sight.
James walked away, the frown still on his lips. She had said no. Lily Evans had turned him down. James had thought she would say yes. Why did she say no, anyways? James wondered heading to the Great Hall.
And then a grin replaced the frown on his lips.
"So, she said yes?" his best friend, Sirius Black, asked as James took his seat in the Great Hall.
"No," James shook his head. She wasn't like any other girl. The thought should have depressed him, but he couldn't stop the manic grin. He should have known when he had asked her out. It would take a lot more than that to win her over.
He would ask her out tomorrow...and then, he would ask her out the day after that. And then…he would continue to ask her out until she inevitably said the three letter word that would make his heart soar. Inevitably, they would be the power couple…the dream couple…the couple everybody wanted to be…because after all…
There was no other girl who could match him the way she did. After all, he was James Potter. And she was Lily Evans. Inevitably, she would realize what he already did. That they were perfect for each other. He just had to wait…for the inevitable.
