Drabble I did for a yuri drabble LJ community some time back. I didn't change it any from then.

"Mireille..."
"Yes? I'm a bit busy...," she continued filing papers and skimming through for a name or a number. She was tapping the desk with a pencil and didn't seem to be enjoying herself.
"I... don't know how to ask this..."
"..."
"I... need to buy you something..."
"Hmm? We're a bit short on money, not sure that's such a good idea."
"No..no..it's ok...I have enough."
"Alright, well I don't have time to discuss this, ok? I'm sorry, maybe another time. Just pick out what you think I need. It'll be alright."
"You sure?"
"Yeah, no problem!" she smiled, "Go on along, I'll have dinner ready on the patio when you get back."
"Dinner? But I..."
"Heh, you cooked last night, it's ok; I can handle it."
"... but..."
"Kirika."
"..." She stared a bit seeing that familiar smile, she resigned to it again. "Ok."
Mireille watched her partner walk out, she seemed troubled by something, but it wasn't of any immediate concern to her now. She had to finish the taxes, find some way to keep their lives together since their days as assassins ended. Well she hoped they ended.
An hour passed and Mireille was on the patio with a couple of plates waiting to be emptied. Kirika walked in with a small box all wrapped in funny colors with a ribbon around it. She saw some creases and problems with the wrapping, but it seemed she put a lot of work into it.
"What's this for?" Mireille looked up at her as she handed the package over. She took it and set it on her lap.
"It's your birthday...right?"
"Oh..darn it, it is, sorry, I...' she fumbled with her words as she recalled the events of the day. "Sorry, Kirika...these taxes have been driving me crazy. I forgot...can't believe it really..."
"No... It's ok, I don't mind, I... did you want a cake?"
"Heh, it's ok, I'm not one for celebrating anyways. Well then what did you get me?" she started unwrapping it. Kirika seemed nervous. "Uh..." she opened the box, "Is that what I think it is?"
"You... seemed...tense..." she blushed. Mireille just blinked.
