Stargazers

Chapter 1: The News

Lucy was in the middle of writing another song when Levy came into her room shouting with Juvia and Erza close behind.

"LU-CHAN!" exclaimed Levy startling her friend, causing the blonde to drop her notebook and guitar. Lucy had a hint of anger and frustration in her eyes, but it was gone as soon as it came. She did not like when people would come in unannounced invading her privacy.

Lucy just looked at Levy with an emotionless face. Lucy had a difficult childhood after her mother died. Her father barely paid attention to her which in returned caused her to do the same to other people. She would spend hours on end being by herself and writing poems, which transitioned to songs since it was a way to put her emotions out of her system. These feelings of being ignored and unloved eventually lead Lucy to start doing bad things. Drugs. Robbery. Cutting. She had gotten caught and taken to juvie multiple times, but her father didn't care. Once she got out for the fifth time, she packed all of her stuff and went out on her own. She got a job, apartment, went to school, and she even stopped cutting, thanks to her friends. She would be bullied for her scars that lead her to be cold and distant. While going to school she met Levy, who introduced her to Juvia and Erza. They all became friends rather quickly surprising enough. Lucy had told her friends her story and it made them closer.

"Aw come on Lucy don't be mad, Juvia has very good news," Juvia replied cheering her blonde friend up.

"Okay what's the news that caused you to bust in to my room," Lucy sighed putting her stuff back in order on her bed. Early in her high school years, when she had enough money, Lucy went and bought herself a guitar and taught herself how to play it. The others learned what she was doing and all learned different instruments. They all formed a band and named it Stargazers, because it had been Lucy's and her mom's favorite thing to do together.

"We got another gig," Erza replied while eating her strawberry cake.

"We get gigs all the time, what is so special about this one?" Lucy asked quite confused. 'This is nothing to be excited over,' she thought.

"Well," Levy said as she looked at the others. "This one is in Magnolia and they specifically wanted us to perform at the Harvest Festival!"

Lucy just looked at Levy with wide eyes, not believing what she had just heard. The Harvest Festival was a huge festival in Magnolia and only the top bands could play at. Lucy had gone there and once and was in awe at how bright and colorful it was. It was memorizing.

"No!" Lucy exclaimed excitedly as she jumped off her bed and ran to give her friends a big hug. They stayed like that for a good 30 seconds, until Lucy realized a very important detail. "Wait isn't the festival in like a couple of days?"

"Yes you would be correct. So we should start packing and leave by tonight so we can have enough time to get there," Erza suggested. With that being said everyone ran to their respected rooms and started packing furiously. After they all got done packing their clothes they put them into their car and started to pack up there equipment. A few hours later they were done checking their equipment for the third time making sure that they had everything. They all decided to sleep for a couple of hours before they got on the road. Lucy lay on her bed and looked at the clock. It was currently one in the morning, and the whole group unanimously decided to wake up at four. Sleep over took Lucy rather quickly since she was tired out.

"Mommy! Mommy!" Lucy exclaimed while tugging at her mother's dress. "Mommy, look at the stars!"

Lucy and her mother were sitting on the field near her house gazing up at the stars. They always went out and looked at the stars for hours on end. Her mother would explain all the constellations and the legends that went along with them.

"Yes Lucy dear, I see them," Layla said in a sweet tone that seemed to calm Lucy down. "Now can you tell me which one that is?" Her mother asked while pointing at the sky.

"That's Aquarius!" Lucy said confidently.

"That's right, good job Lucy," said Layla while looking down at her young daughter. "And that one?"

"Cancer!"

Layla just laughed at her daughter's excitement. There was a moment of silence before Layla told her daughter.

"Lucy, I love you. I'll always love you no matter what happens in your life. When I am gone I want you to know that I will always be watching you from the stars. Whenever you feel lonely, just look up and know that I am looking back at you. Okay?"

Lucy looked at her mother, put on a big smile, and replied, "Okay! I'll never forget. I love you too Mom."

And with that ending line, Lucy awoke to her alarm with tears in her eyes at the thought of the memory. "I love you, Mom." With that being said she wiped her eyes, turned off her alarm, and got ready for the day of travel.
