Disclaimer: I don't in any way claim to own Labyrinth.

Summary: Just a little demonstration to keep him entertained while his sister ran the labyrinth. Arrogantly imparting some magical secrets to what he assumed be his heir then forgetting Toby all together. Now Toby's doing goblin magic...struggling to get beyond magic shards and bloody hands.

Chapter 1: Crystal Clear

A young boy ran a tired hand through his messy blond hair before turning to the sharp jagged piece of glass resting in his palm. Blood was welling up from and around this shard of glass.

Quickly he crossed his room over to his bedside table all the while cradling his left hand to his chest. Taking a fistful of tissues he winced.

He let out a strangled yell of frustration. "Shards," he swore.

Not a bad night overall. Even producing a shard tonight had been a success. He'd made three crystals and only one shard.

He looked sadly at the red bloody gash across his palm. Thinking he'd thought he'd been getting good he glanced over at his bookshelf. Even in the dim light his jar of crystals shone.

Reaching into the top drawer of his dresser he fished out a first aid kit. But rather than reach for anything to stop the bleed he just took out a long cotton swab. He popped it into his mouth letting it get damp. Toby frowned at the nasty alcohol taste but it was over quickly.

His attention returned to his poor hand. Holding his hand out palm up he started dabbing at his wound closing his eyes tight at the initial pain. As usual there was this slight hissing sound coming from where his skin was knitting back together. And then it was over and he couldn't keep from grinning at his unblemished hand turning it over to inspect it. The chunk of glass falling to the floor.

The blood and glass left behind a messy scene. But as luck would have it his parents gone off seeing Sarah for the week at he college campus.. So his secret was safe for now.

Tired he decided he would give it one more try before turning in for the night.

Toby stood straightening up to his full height. He focused with intent latching onto something inside of him he couldn't put a name to. Holding out a hand at eye level he brought his thumb and middle finger together creating a slight noise that bounced off his bedroom walls.

Toby felt a tingling sensation rise from his toes up to the tope of his head. A few beads of sweat made trails down his face.

Opening up his clenched fist he saw a perfect although very small crystal. He had made so many marble sized crystals but this one was different. Unlike the other crystals he'd made in the past this one was clear.

He felt a shiver of fear run through him like a shock...he could sense something watching him from the depths of that tiny crystal.

Toby felt protective over this special crystal. It felt alive somehow pulsing like a tiny heartbeat.

It felt like something was coming as the lights flickered The storm outside roared with ferocity.

Then suddenly Toby yelped as some invisible force kicked him behind the knees sending him falling forward onto his hands and knees.

His crystal, his special crystal half bounced half rolled under his bed. And in the darkness he saw two luminous yellow eyes.

"Shiny! Magic!" The Monster under the bed crooned hunched over Toby's crystal. "Gift for Kingey!"
And then it was gone...leaving behind a very freaked out Toby Williams.

A/N:
"What will Jareth think of this "gift?"

Monster under the bed? - Poor Toby.
