"Open the present, please?"
The corner of Sweden's mouth raised ever so slightly at the Finnish man in front of him. It was a few days after Christmas, and this was one of the few days neither of them had any plans. Right now, they were opening presents a little late, but it was the thought that counted… right?
Finding the corner of the tape, Sweden peeled it back ever so slowly, trying to keep the pretty red and green patterned paper intact… Well, no, it was to annoy Finland. And as he meticulously peeled back the layers, he could see his partner fidgeting and frowning, and Sweden tried not to chuckle. Peel back one layer… take this oh-so-sticky piece of tape off carefully… fold back this piece of wrapping paper…
"Just tear it apart already!" Finland tried to yank the box out of his hands, his face wrinkled in frustration, and this time, Finland could see him shaking with laughter. "Quit teasing! It's not funny!"
"Sure it is. I'm laughin', right?"
After being shoved lightly on the arm, the Swede took the box back and tore the paper to shreds. Inside was a white box, and the bespectacled man looked at his boyfriend before he let out a short chuckle and took the lid off.
"So, what do you think of it?"
He pulled the… thing out from the box and held it out in front of him. Was it a sweater? He couldn't tell; the yarn or wool or whatever this fuzzy stuff was was incredibly lumpy-were those red and purple and orange and blue things pompoms? They were stuck haphazardly all over the dark blue sweater, which had white and gray zigzags running across his chest, yellow and hot pink stripes in between, and rows of snowflakes scattered across. It looked like an elf had swallowed too much Christmas spirit and thrown up a rainbow on the sweater.
And Finland looked proud of it. Oh, crap…
"Uh… it's nice." Thank goodness, for once, that his voice was naturally low, because the Finn just took it as it was and grinned widely. There was a little shine that was brighter in his violet eyes, and his cheeks turned warm. "Y-you like it? Let me put it on you."
"Yeah, sure…" Sweden raised his arms and let Finland pull it down. Immediately, he wrinkled his eyes and looked down at the sweater and back at Finland. This was really itchy!
"Su-san, y-you're scaring me a little… is something wrong?"
"No, never mind." The other Nordic gave him a wary look, but still smiled nonetheless.
"Anyways, I'm so glad you liked it!" he said, "I spent hours and hours looking for that, but when I showed it to Den, he just laughed and Ice was smirking at it, so… yeah."
Now, Sweden felt a little bad that he didn't like it. This was something that his partner had put a lot of thought into. But as he stared at the other man, grinning and laughing as he tore up the wrapping paper and threw it up in the air, he shook his head and let his lips curve up into a small smile. He could suck it up if it made Fin happy.
It was the thought that counted. And the love behind it was all that mattered.
"Oh, did I mention, I got myself a matching sweater, too. So now we can wear them next time we meet up with the others!"
Crap.
[Author's Note]
I read somewhere that... interesting sweaters are common in Finland. I don't know. Don't kill me if I'm wrong. This was another request from Tumblr, from anonymous for just SuFin. I had no idea what they wanted, so I made something up. Also... I didn't fail too badly with Sweden-speak, did I? Ayah...
Oh, Sweden, you little tease.
