Not a Morning Person

The peaceful silence of the room was interrupted by a slow intake of breath. The lump beneath the bed covers shifted slightly before bright blue eyes blinked open. They glanced around the room before falling on the clock that hung on the wall beside the window. At seven o clock, most people would still be happily sleeping but he had always been a morning person. He turned his head back to the bed, a smile tugging at his lips at the bundle of brown hair that peeked out above the covers, the slow, deep breathing indicating that his partner was still fast asleep.

Settling himself back down, he reached out an arm to wrap around his companion's waist while his other hand supported his chin as he watched her sleep. He did this quite often really but she never knew it because she was still asleep by the time he would get up and look for some breakfast.

She shifted a little with a small sound, almost like a chirp, and slowly rolled onto her side to face the blonde who was watching her. Her eyes were slowly revealed, staring at him with a dazed, sleepy expression. When she shifted her gaze to look over his shoulder at the clock, she let out a small groan and closed her eyes again.

"Still night," she muttered softly, snuggling up against his bare chest. The blonde smiled softly and placed a kiss on her temple in return.

"It's seven in the morning Aerith," he murmured gently, letting both of his hands wrap around her slender form and resting his cheek on top of her head.

"It's the middle of the night to me," she replied sleepily but after a moment, she opened her eyes again with a small sigh. "Are you going to put the kettle on or not?" she asked.

"I thought you wanted to go to sleep," he replied cheekily.

"Ha ha!" she murmured as she started kissing along his shoulder and up his neck. The blonde moaned softly, unconsciously tilting his head to the side to allow her access but she stopped and sat up, giving him a grin.

"Please could you make me a coffee Cloud?" she begged, fluttering her eyelashes in a flirtatious manner. Cloud sat up, placing a quick peck on her lips.

"Well, since you asked so nicely," he agreed, gently pushing her off him and sitting up. Aerith smiled triumphantly as she flopped back down on the bed, watching the muscles in his back move as he stretched before standing up. "I'll be back in a moment," he said as he left the room.

"Hmm? Okay." Aerith muttered, snuggling into the pillows below her. She could just rest her eyes for a few minutes…

Cloud entered the room five minutes later with only one cup of coffee and a newspaper under his arm. A knowing smile crossed over his lips as he looked at Aerith's sleeping form. He gently placed the cup down on the bedside cabinet on his side of the bed and lay down on the covers. He glanced over at his lover again, hearing her deep, sleeping breaths and slowly shook his head.

"We can't all be a morning person," he muttered softly as he unfolded the paper.
