Just a little one-shot that wouldn't go away. Pure Caskett fluff.

Kate watches from the bathroom door. His brow furrows as he stands in front of the full-length mirror in the bedroom, fiddling with his tie. She can tell that he's nervous, though she's unsure why; it's not like he hadn't done this before.

"Fuck" he says under his breath, before muttering something to himself about stupid ties and their stupid bad attitudes. He turns and his face changes as he sees her; it's the look that he's got for her and her alone. "How are you ready before I am?"

She shrugs her shoulders in response, walking slowly towards him. He had a point; there was no reason why she should be ready first, yet here they were. Kate wraps her hands around his neck and lightly kissed his jaw. "Here, let me help you with that," she says as she grabs the knotted tie, pulling it off his neck.

His eyes are trained firmly on her, and she feels him watching as she undoes the mess of a knot that he had managed to tie. "God, you're so sexy Kate"

She tries to ignore him, instead focusing on the task at hand, but can't help the smile that escapes. "Shh Castle. I'm busy here."

With the tie free of it's knots, she wraps it around his neck, slowly tying it the same way she had seen her mother do for her father when she was a child. She wasn't great at tying a tie, but she was apparently better than Castle. She pulls the knot tight and steps back to admire her handiwork (although her eyes were more firmly trained on the man wearing the tie), noting that the tie was slightly skewed to the left. It would have to do. Kate grabs the tie, using it to pull Castle closer, "You're so hot when you're all dressed up," she purrs, leaning in for a kiss.

He breaks away, "I thought you preferred me sans clothing."

"That too," she replies, intensifying the passion, slipping her tongue into his mouth.

He returns the gesture, slipping his hand around her back and resting it under the black material of her dress. Ah the benefits of a backless ballgown. "You know, we really don't have to go. We could stay in."

She pulls away, a look of confusion on her face. "I think they'll notice if we don't show up."

"You sure?"

She leans in once more, pressing her lips to his in a chaste kiss. "I'm certain."

He looks up at her (it was always up at her when she wore those heels), searching her eyes for any sign of uncertainty and fear. There was none. "Are you sure you're ready to do this Kate?"

She looks at him, love in her eyes, "I'm ready." She runs a hand through her hair, her loose curls swept to the side. "Are you sure you want to do this tonight?"

He laughed. She loves when he laughs. "Are you kidding? It's perfect! You have no idea how much press I'll get for this Heat book when people hear that I'm dating Nikki Heat!"

Kate can't help but smile.
