Title: A Fragment of Soul

Author: Anonymist

Summary: Harry's thoughts on what he saw in the mirror.

A/N: These are my first thoughts after (finally!) finishing the final book. It's rougher and in a different style from my usual verses, a not-quite-poem, wandering thing. There are vague spoilers for the Deathly Hallows, so beware. Please leave a review!

A Fragment of Soul

-

I saw you-- I know I did,

Just today.

In a little bit of silver, lost for years in the cracks and crannies,

I caught a glimpse:

Not of dreary yellow walls, not of emerald (like my mother's),

But blue--

Just blue, bright and piercing.

It was like a fragment of your soul behind the glass.

But I know better.

Only the dark ones seek to shatter themselves

The ravenous, the fearful

Who see value in sharp shards, to cut,

Scattering knifelike edges

Relishing in brokenness.

-

I sliced my finger;

I was careless, it was hidden,

Deep inside.

The sharp edge caught in my flesh

I tore it out--

It tore me.

I'll mend; I'm whole, alive.

Unshattered.

But it'll leave a scar behind.

-

I rinsed the shard, under the cool tap water.

It flashed, and maybe it was half moon spectacles catching the sun.

Maybe not.

It's whole, isn't it, on the other side of the mirror.

Funny how there's only bits and pieces here

Only from the other side do we get it: the whole,

The truth.

-

The shard is clear, now;

An eye stares back, and it's emerald (like my mother's).

In a little bit of silver, I see green--

Just green.

It's like a fragment of my soul.
