•Why did I write this? I don't know. I guess it was because I was trolling YouTube and a sad SalQueen video came up. Well, here ya go.•
It had been a year.
A whole year since his passing.
A whole year since Lightning McQueen had been involved in one of the worst crashes in racing history.
All she could remember was his body twisting and turning in the infield.
It was also a whole year since she found out she was expecting.
Sally sighed as she set the paperwork down on her desk at the Cozy Cone. She shouldn't be reminiscing on old memories, especially ones that brought back the tears she tried so hard to stop.
But, her motherly hormones got the best of her.
Tears poured down her hood as all of the happy times spent with Lightning flooded her mind.
Then suddenly, she veered out of her office and down the street, making her way down the stretch of road in Redhood Valley they always used to drive together.
After his death, Sally never believed she could be a mother.
Days were spent where she internally battled herself at whether or not she could do it.
Until one day, a voice whispered, "Yes."
She could do it. She would do it.
After that day, she tried her hardest to prepare for the arrival of her baby. The townsfolk were very helpful and caring. Flo and Ramone even offered her a bigger place to stay.
Lightning would've been filled with joy if he had known they were having a girl. He had always wanted a daughter.
As she drove down that stretch of road, she thought she could still hear the powerful roar of his engine, the soft sound of his voice whispering "I love you", and the deep lingering of his laugh. Sally stared at the sky for a moment. He was up there, she knew, up there watching her and their daughter. He would watch her grow up, but not where Sally had wanted him.
She hoped that one day, her daughter would know her father and his racing legacy, and pass on stories of him to her own children.
Sally pulled into an empty shaded area of the woods, where they had laid him to rest.
She parked in front of his grave, and told him what had gone on the past week, how their daughter had been, and how the town was holding up.
And as she drove away, she smiled as tears rolled down her hood.
But for once, they were tears of joy.
"Cause you went away, how dare you, I miss you, they say I'll be okay, but I'm not going to ever get over you."
•Omg sorry if its bad. I'm not too good with sad stories. Reviews are greatly appreciated! All characters belong to Disney, 'cept for their daughter, she's mine. And the song, "Over You" belongs to Miranda Lambert.•
