How We Knew Hermione Was a Witch
By: phix27
Hermione was walking down the road with her mom. Like all five year olds, she was holding her mother's hand. She was so happy! Her mother was finally getting her a puppy! It was every girl's dream. That, and owning a horse and being a princess.
Her mother and she were walking to London.
"Mummy, when will we get there?" asked Hermione anxiously.
"Soon, dearest, soon," said her mother, smiling at her daughter's enthusiasm.
They walked on. Sometimes Hermione walked ahead and picked up some rocks. Sometimes she skipped and hummed. She thought of the puppies. What kind of puppy will I get? Maybe a beagle or a golden retriever. Or maybe a lab or a husky. As Hermione thought of the puppies she could get, they arrived at the pet store. Pete's Pets. Hermione ran into the store.
"Mummy mummy! Look at all the puppies!" she exclaimed with the enthusiasm only a five year old can have.
"Yes, dearest, but you can only pick one."
Hermione searched the puppies' faces. Some had wrinkly, some had cute faces. Some were ugly and some were strange. Then she saw it. The perfect puppy. It was a lab and sheltie mix. It had big brown eyes and a large wagging tail.
"Mummy, I want that one," said Hermione, pointing at the puppy.
"All right Hermione, let's go pay for it."
They went up to the register and asked to see the puppy. It came bounding out and jumped on Hermione.
"Hehe stop that puppy," laughed Hermione.
The puppy sat and stared at her with its big brown eyes. What to call this puppy? She thought and thought. Finally it came to her.
"I'll call you… Liam," Hermione said to the puppy.
"Woof!" said Liam as he jumped on Hermione.
Hermione laughed. She picked up her puppy, which barely fit in her arms and toddled out of the store. She followed her mother out to the sidewalk. They started to walk home. She was struggling to keep Liam in her arms.
"Maybe you should put him down, Hermione," said her mother gently.
"Otay," she placed Liam on the sidewalk next to her. "Come on Liam, come on boy."
Liam barked and waged his tail. He walked next to Hermione, sometimes running ahead to her mother. Then, a car ran by. Liam decided to chase the car.
"LIAM!" screamed Hermione as loud as she could. Liam was right in front of the car. Suddenly, Liam was on the other side of the street. Hermione looked down. Her hands were out in front of her, like she had pushed Liam out of the way. Did I do that? Liam come bounding up to her.
"Liam!" laughed Hermione as the puppy licked her face. "That was a bad puppy. That's a no no," scolded Hermione.
The puppy looked ashamed of himself.
"Come on Liam," said Hermione. "Let's go home."
