Music in the dead of night Summary: Can the power of music unite and heal two desperate spirits? disclaimer: I own nothing! Professor Severus Snape, famed potions master of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, sat in his rooms sipping a whiskey toddy. Slowly he made his way over to the grand piano that sat to the left of the hearth. Eloquently, he sat down and laid is fingers over the keys. The music that is brought forth cannot be descrribed as anything but beautiful. The melody and its harmonies are sensually deep, heart breakingly haunting, flowing around and caressing the listener like a long time lover. Nobody knows Severus' secret. His passion. The music is the one thing that he has left to himself. Hermione Granger stands in her room. Almost automaticaly she picks up her flute and begins to play. The notes just seem to flow forth without concious effort. the sound is meloncholy and soft. Hermione closes her eyes and lets herself feel the music. When the tune is finished Hermione sets down the flute and sighs. Secretely she wished that the whole world knew of her passion, then maybe people would not see her as only a bookworm. It is the music that Hermione her fire and it is the one thing she has left to call her own. Draco Malfoy sat in his room. He had just finished putting up silencing charms on his rooms. With the charms in place he begins to sing as he plays the cello. his tenor voice makes a fine offset for the deepness of the cellos' voice. As Hermione packed her bags for the school year she sighed heavily. she wished she could bring her music with her. Then a thought occured to her, she could shrink at least her flute and violin, put them in her bag and only take them out in the Room of Requirement or she could practice in her own dormitory since she had her own room because she was Head Girl. This way she could take her music with her. Severus Snape sneered at his clock. Twnety minutes. Twenty minutes until his hell would begin, for in that time frame the students will be arriving on the Hogwarts Express. It was at times like this that he was eternally grateful for his gifted hands and the music that they could create. Thus thinking this he sat down at his piano and starts to play, this time it is not a tune of his own composition but rather the "Moonlight Sonata" by Beethoven. Snape thought that this suited his mood perfectly. Hermione was glad to go back to Hogwarts for their final year. She had the feeling that this year was going to be the best yet. After the welcoming feast she made her way to her common room with the head boy, who was none other then Draco Malfoy. Hermione was only a little nervous about this. She felt that they could make it work once they were alone and he did not have to keep up the Slytherin Prince facade. If Draco was nice to her behind closed doors then Hermione felt that she might be able to keep her sanity living with him. When she enters the comon room she hears the stangest of things, the deep melodic voice of a cello. Curious she walks up the stairs. there she sees Draco playing the cello with eyes closed. As quietly as she enterd, she makes her way back dowm the stairs. All the while thinking ot herself, "Maybe this year won't be so bad after all." End of Chapter 1
