Written for LIFE (Noisy)

BOOM!

Lily should have known that whenever she entered into the world of the Marauder's that she was signing herself up for the chaotic and noisy world they lived in. It was common knowledge to anyone who knew the four of them that noise was an extra member of their company. It traveled with them just as often as trouble did. Lily had been naive in thinking that entering adulthood would have changed things now.

Standing over the mess in her kitchen, Lily could only shack her head. In the middle of the black and white tiled floor, where standing her boys. They were covered head to toe in flour and Merlin only knew what else. Eggs were dripping down her walls. Among the noise atmosphere, the dinging of the oven was barely audible.

"This isn't my fault!" James's voice could be heard over the noise as the four men all talked at once. He had his glasses in his hands, whipping off the smudge on them with his shirt. Sirius yelled something back but Lily didn't hear it over Remus' loud complains over the mess in his hair, and Peter's grumbling about things being ruined. It was a real mess.

"Hello." Lily tried to get their attention, but the guys didn't hear her over the noise. After a few more attempts, Lily put her fingers in her mouth and whistled loudly. That got their attention.

"Hey sweetheart." James smiled lopsidedly at her. "I can explain."

"Oh you better." Lily had her hands on her hips, her glare leveled at them. "Please do explain why my kitchen looks like this."

The guys looked between one another, and then at the mess.

"Well…" James trailed off.

"It was going to be a surprise," added Sirius.

"But didn't really work out like we thought," Remus was still whipping something out of his hair.

"Happy birthday." Peter smiled at her with glee.

"We baked you a cake." James slipped his glasses back onto his face.

"It's on the wall," Sirius was too gleeful about the situation. "And the ceiling. And the floor."

"We don't really know many baking spells." James said.

"We'll clean this up." Remus had moved over to the cabinet, pulling out a broom.

"Please do so." Lily only shock her head. "Don't blow up my kitchen please."

"We won't."

Lily turned to leave. She looked back, smirking at them. "Thank you for the surprise boys, but please stay out the kitchen."

"Will do so Evans!"

Lily left them in the kitchen. She smiled as she sat down in the front room. From the kitchen she could hear the arguing beginning once more over who had to mop and who knew the cleaning spells. A moment later there was a clatter of things falling over and what she assumed was one of them being smacked with a broom handle. She had to admire the humor in the fact that the four of them couldn't bake a simple cake without making it all into a chaotic mess.
