Summary: John Sheppard decided to go to Atlantis, not just for the adventure, but for the potential that he knew he'd find there.
John loved being a pilot. He was happy being an average soldier whose most challenging work included chauffeuring around VIPs.
A few minutes before arriving at McMurdo, Sheppard asked O'Neill what he thought of Elizabeth Weir.
"She cracked a joke. There's hope."
When John reached McMurdo, he'd decided.
It wasn't until he was embarking on his first mission that he understood why he agreed to this expedition. Weir stood expressionless on the balcony. Her eyes were filled with everything from excitement to terror.
Not knowing why, John boyishly waved at her. O'Neill's last remark about Weir surfaced.
She has potential.
