The stopwatch sat in Jack's pocket, glinting in the sunlight streaming down from the sky above. He picked it up for the tenth time since getting back to Earth; he held it tight in his hand, feeling its smooth metal and intricate design, cold against his skin. He took it out and pressed the release catch like he thought its previous owner would have done, to count the seconds or just to check the time, whatever it would have been, it would have been important, it always was.

The first time he had noticed that stopwatch, properly noticed it; burned in the back of Jack's memory. One night, just one night had lead to another disaster at his hands. This stopwatch wasn't even the original; the original had gotten its face cracked during one very passionate encounter during that night. The owner hadn't been best impressed, but Jack didn't see him complaining at the time, far from that in fact, he still felt bad about it though so he had gotten him a new one.

Jack remembered turning off the CCTV that night, for four hours they were free to do whatever with out fear of their actions being archived for generations to spy or worse the rest of the team to gawp at. So many midnight meetings and day time encounters precisely timed and attended on time with the help of the handy time telling device, always at the ready with that stopwatch.

It came in use best when they were playing a bit of late night naked hide and seek, so Jack could tell how long he had to wait, instead of counting. He smiled as he walked along the Cardiff street he was now heading down, as the memories came flooding back; he took pride in his cheating, always one eye on the hider, but then again it was always hard to drag his eyes off that particular naked hider.

Jack checked the time and closed the catch stopping the onslaught of memories attached to the small stopwatch. He placed it back in his pocket and continued his journey.
