Fire burnin' (Jack Kelley one-shot)
I don't own Newsies in any way.
The sound of yelling could be heard down the corridors of the Refuge. All of the child convicts (hehe) poked their heads out, including Jack, to see what was going on. A redhead was being carried in two guards.
"Let me go! Let me go I said! Hey idiots! I said let me go!" she yelled.
Jack chuckled.
"What'cho lookin' at youse stupid cowboy!" she hissed at him.
The guards threw her in the cell next to him.
"Ise said what'cho lookin' at?" she said.
"Easy dere Fihe", Jack said, "Ise Jack".
The girl smiled at him and said, "Dey call me Flames".
"Ise can see why", he said.
"So, how long youse in foa?" she asked.
"Anuddah three months", he said.
"Looks we'll be getting' out around da same time", she said.
"Ise lookin' foaward ta it", Jack said smiling.
For the next few months, Flames and Jack got to know each other.
He told her about the other newsies.
She was mellow when she was with him. She didn't start fights.
It wasn't long, until they started sleeping pressed up against the bars holding hands.
The newsies tried to bust him out multiple times, but he would stay for Flames.
They were released on the same day.
Jack continued to be a newsie, while Flames went to go work at dress shop.
They would go eat a Tibby's everyday at lunch.
She would talk to the newsies and fixed their clothes.
It wasn't long before Jack proposed to her.
Flames turned him down the first time, saying that they couldn't survive on a newsie salary.
Jack got a job in Santa Fe, breeding horses. He proposed again and Flames said yes this time.
A year later, they had a little boy named Sean, in honor of Spot Conlon, Flames' dirty little secret.
Flames was a Conlon. And no one but Flames would ever know.
