A/N: I've been trying to get an idea for a DannyxSam fic, so when I heard the song Still Here by Digital Daggers, I knew it fit. In a weird, if-one-of-them-died kind of way. This is my first fic, so bear with me. Constructive reviews are GREATLY appreciated.
Disclaimer: If I owned Danny Phantom, there would be a season 4
Still Here
They would never know. They would never know how much it hurt to see his monument. How many hours she would spend crying when she passed his house. They didn't know that the tears that fell at his funeral where not the last ones. All they saw was a girl pushing through a tragedy, being brave. It never crossed their minds that, just maybe, she was still crying herself to sleep while holding his picture. And that's what she wanted. She didn't want them to see her tears and pain. She wanted them to her see smile and cheer when the Fentons run to stop a ghost. Her puffy and bloodshot eyes were something she preferred to keep to herself. Because, in a way, their cluelessness helps her. Because, every night, when the tears would stop flowing and she finally falls asleep, he would appear. He would come back to comfort and hold her, to tell her that it's okay. And when she hears his voice, she knows it is. However, when her eyes flitter open, he disappears. She's alone once again, left to wonder about what could have been. So she continues to go through the day, wiping tears and putting on her façade. But what she doesn't notice, is that as time passes, the smiles become genuine and she can look at the Fenton Works sign without choking up. His visits get shorter and shorter until one day, he doesn't come. His photo stays on her desk and her cheeks stay dry. She lives her life in peace, with him watching invisibly. Then, years later, he returns. This time, though, she leaves with him saying, "I knew that you were still here."
