The Deal is Struck
2/26/13
The deal was struck, so he was told
By a liar from the Days of Old
To devils' grasp his soul he sold
To save his brother, sleeping cold.
The righteous man, he was deceived
No miracle had been achieved
But, distraught, he still believed
That life his brother had received.
He saw him there, as plain as day
They carried on their well-worn way
His friends looked on with grave dismay
As his mind fell to disarray.
The angels watched from Heaven's Gate
While demons clawed up through the grate
In this tragic twist of fate
To save the world, it was too late.
The righteous man, he lived a lie
Even if he knew the end was nigh
He wouldn't help, would not comply
For he wouldn't let his brother die.
One lonely angel, Castiel
Took care to watch this empty shell
Close by, but unseen, he would dwell
Unsure of how the truth to tell.
This dark charade could not go on
Not while they fought the cruel Hell-spawn
It was time to tell the righteous son
That his dear brother was long gone.
Castiel appeared one night
With whisper of his wings in flight
Upon the righteous man shed light
A symbol of God's endless might.
But when the angel did draw near
What he beheld confirmed his fear;
Left in illusion for a year
The righteous man's mind was not clear.
Castiel, he left him there
And as he flew back through the air
He wished the man was more aware
That he was their savior; 'twas his burden to bear.
But the deal was struck, so he'd been told
By a demon from the Days of Old
To devils' grasp, his soul he'd sold
But his brother, 'neath the earth, was cold.
