"Good night, my little one. Sleep well and pleasant dreams." She softly said, the faintest hints of a smile stretched over her kind features as she leaned close to the boy who lay on his little futon bed. His back to her so she couldn't see the worried expression that marred his innocent little face.
"Good night, mama." The boy softly replied cheerlessly. Brow furrowed and a corner of his lips down turned. His mother may have not been able to see his face, but she knew something was wrong. She trailed her fingers over his dark messy locks, gingerly petting her child with the gentlest of reassurance.
"What's the matter, Shuhei? Tell mama what's bothering you." The small boy exhaled loudly then jutted his lips. How was he going to tell her he was worried about her? Worried sick about how the quiet way she muffled her sobs, every single night. She may have thought he was fast asleep as she lay beside him, crying. And the worst thing was, he couldn't do a thing to make her feel better.
He had asked her once, one morning after they'd awoken if she was okay. If something had been bothering her, that she should tell him. He was her little man, he could make it better. But she brushed it off and just smiled at him. Telling him not to worry his little head about grown up things. Whatever that meant. However, he might have a good idea what exactly the problem was.
He had asked her another time, if she knew where his father was and she sat him down explained how things worked once people came to soul society. They were lucky to have found one another she explained but unfortunately his papa and her husband wasn't just as much. He was somewhere out there, looking for them and one day he would find them. Sadly though, days turned to weeks and months to years and no word was ever heard of the man that was supposed to have sired him. The man his mother just couldn't let go of.
The older the boy grew the more he seemed to understand and the more he felt completely helpless. Unable to do a thing for the one person in the world who mattered to him. Totally helpless and it only made him feel all the more miserable. Things never seemed to change, during the day they would almost everything together, his attempt to keep her company and make her happy however he possibly could.
But when the veil of night fell upon them and it was time for bed. The heartsick, young, dark haired woman would softly weep herself to sleep, almost every night and the boy who slept not too far from her would always hear those smothered sobs. Always leaving him feeling helpless and angry. Angry that the man she was waiting for, never came. That only seemed to make the anger grow, larger, darker, as the days passed by.
He turned to her then and offered her a smile, shaking his head he said, "It's nothing mama. I love you, you know that right?" The woman looked at him with a puzzled expression for the briefest of seconds before she pinched his cheek. "Of course I do, silly. And I love you too, now go to sleep." Then she leaned close and placed a gentle kiss atop his forehead. Shuhei closed his eyes and smiled a little. But deep in his heart, the darkness only grew.
Author's note: Hello friends, today I brought you a bleach fan fic. So there's something you guys should know though. This is my own personal headcanon for Shuhei and has nothing to do with anything canon. Just my take on why he has a dark side to him. As always reviews are welcomed. Let me know what you thought~
