Together yet apart
We eat, march, laugh, and fight together, but
We never ask what each other's thinking ever.
We're in the same place yet apart, each trying
to piece back the tears of our broken hearts.
Reliving a battle or dreaming of home, we're
together and yet, very much alone…
We watch each other's backs, our trust in
Each other so strong, yet our minds are someplace
Else; we've been fight so long.
We're fighting together yet apart, each trying to
burry the sorrow in our hearts.
Shrinking in terror, or joking all day, we're together
And yet, so far away…
On the ground we're both covered in blood and
Dirt, but when I called his name he moaned he was
Hurt.
Lying here we're together yet apart, I'm listening to
the silence of his bleeding heart.
I'm crying alone knowing he'll never cry again,
We're together and yet, never will be again…
So, now the war's over and I live with my wife,
Yet I can never be happy; ghosts haunt my life.
We live together yet apart, I can't unlock myself
And it breaks her heart.
Screaming from a nightmare or having nothing
To say, we're together and yet, so far away…
Maybe someday someone will understand my
Hurt since coming home, but until then I'll be
surrounded by people, yet forever alone.
Always together, yet forever apart…
