A/N : I know I haven't written anything in a LONG time but I love this song and it inspired me. ( I know it's a bit sad)

Disclaimer: Nothing is mine. The characters are Tamora Pierces and the song "Superman" belongs to Five For Fighting

Alanna shut the door quietly and locked it. She sighed and sat in her favorite chair in front of the fire. She stared into the black fire place. So bare and empty with out a roaring fire. A tear slipped down her cheek.

I can't stand to fly
I'm not that naive
I'm just out to find
The better part of me

She was scared. Scared that she wouldn't make it through another war. That she couldn't be the hero she was supposed to be. Sometimes she wondered who she really was.
I'm more than a bird...I'm more than a plane
More than some pretty face beside a train
It's not easy to be me

Wasn't she more than a war hero? More than a pretty nickname? Wasn't she a lady, a person, a friend?

Wish that I could cry
Fall upon my knees
Find a way to lie
About a home I'll never see

She heard a knock at the door and George's voice call her name. She wiped away her tears and opened the door. She smiled, but it was fake. He told her they had to go see Jon. She would get to go home again. Home? Did she have a home?

It may sound absurd...but don't be naive
Even Heroes have the right to bleed
I may be disturbed...but won't you conceed
Even Heroes have the right to dream
It's not easy to be me

They rode swiftly on the way to Corus. Suddenly bandits sprung from the trees and attacked them. Alanna fought a man larger than herself. If her sword faultered just once, then she would be dead. Gone. No Lioness to protect them. That would never happen though. Right? A sword bit into her leg and she killed the attacker.

Up, up and away...away from me
It's all right...You can all sleep sound tonight
I'm not crazy...or anything...

All the bandits were gone or dead. She looked at the blood on her leg and laughed. George looked at her and she said her leg had been cut.

I can't stand to fly
I'm not that naive
Men weren't meant to ride
With clouds between their knees

Everyone cheered as she entered the palace gates. She smiled and waved back. It was surreal. It was perfect. A knight is shining armor riding into the palace to meet the king.

I'm only a man in a silly red sheet
Digging for kryptonite on this one way street
Only a man in a funny red sheet
Looking for special things inside of me

She looked godly in her shining armor and perfect golden horse. If only she could get away from it all. Then she would know who she really was.

It's not easy to be me.

She sat silent and strong as Jon told her alone he was afraid of the coming war. She watched him cry and wished she could do the same.
