Chapter 1: Batman Swimtrunks

Summer time. That's what Destiny Islands are known for.
Yellow suns, ice cream, great music. Towels, bathing suits, pools. Selphie Tillmitt's pool, to be exact. But wait, why am I in a pool when the beach is my backyard? Two words: heated pool.
It was Selphie's 8th birthday and she wanted to have a pool party with all of her friends and family. And, since I am one of her best friends, I was automatically on the invite list.
I'm swimming around, pretending I'm a mermaid, when I hear my cousin, Naminé, scream at me, "Kairi! Get up here! We're all gonna jump into the water at the same time to make a huge splash!".
I swim to the ladder in Selphie's pool, since I'm in the deep end and I'm way too lazy to swim all the way to the steps to get out. It wasn't until I was grabbing for the handle bar did I realize that someone was already trying to get out. A boy with fair skin and chocolate brown hair that pointed in all different directions (was he part porcupine, or something?) was using the ladder, so I waited for my turn. But, this dude was taking FOREVER. I'm pretty sure it doesn't take someone 3 minutes just to climb out of a pool.
"Dude, hurry up," I said. "Not everyone wants to look at your Batman swimsuit for an eternity."
The boy turned to look at me, but his still-wet hands lost their grip on the pole, making him slip and fall into the pool, sending us both underwater.
Once we resurfaced, I lashed out him, "Dude, seriously?! First, you take a thousand years trying to get out, and then you crush me because you fell! What's your problem?"
The boy hung his head and said, "I'm so-sorry, I didn't me-mean to,". Immediately, I feel sorry for yelling at him.
I smiled at him and said, "Hey, it's okay, everyone has their slip-ups". He nodded his head and smiled, while his amazing ocean-blue eyes brightened.
"What's your name?," I ask him.
"Sora. Sora Hikari, what's yours?,",
"I'm Kairi Lockhart, it's nice to meet ya," I said, while shaking his hand. "Me and my friends are gonna jump into the pool together, you wanna come?", I ask him.
"Sure, that sounds like fun!" We climb out of the pool together and join our friends. We jump into the pool a few times but then the adults call for lunch. Selphie's dad made hamburgers and hot dogs for us to eat.
I was sipping my chocolate milk when Sora walked up to me.
"Hi,", he said.
"Hello," I replied. He brought out his chocolate milk that he was holding.
"Umm... can I sit with you?", the spiky-haired boy asked me. I responded with a simple nod of my head. He sat down on the bench next to me.
"I wanted to say I'm sorry for everything that happened earlier," he began.
"Don't be, there's no reason to say sorry, It wasn't your fault," I cut him off.
"But-,",
"No buts, now be quite and drink your milk," I say to him. He does what I say and a comfortable silence surrounds us.
"But for the record," I begin, " I've gotta give you props on the Batman swimtrunks. He is totally boss."
Author's Note: Hi there! So, this is my first fanfiction ever, so I hope you enjoyed it! This chapter is really short, but I promise they'll get longer in the process. Oh, and some of the grammar might've been incorrect, but Sora and Kairi are 8 and that's how I wanted them to sound like.
