A Kiss is Worth a Thousand Words

He was confused. He was dating Asami. And he liked her. A lot. But he always seemed to be thinking about her, even when he was with Asami. But choosing Asami was so easy; he didn't even have to think twice about it. She had everything he wanted. She could hold her own, had money and class, and not to mention drop dead good looks. She was perfect for him. In his mind's eye, he could see them getting married, having children, growing old together. He knew what the future had in store for them. She, however, was just so…different. She was unlike anyone else he had ever met before. But that didn't matter. He was with Asami, and he wanted the future he could have with her. He just needed to make sure, to put his mind to rest. He needed to get her out of his head. So, when she kissed him out of the blue atop the Pro-Bending Arena, he kissed her back. After the initial shock of her lips on his, he leaned in; relaxed, letting his eyes drift close. Her lips were soft; warm, yet uncertain. As they remained in the lip lock, he felt something stir deep within him, like a long dormant dragon lifting its scaled head to sniff the air curiously. But thoughts of Asami, of Bolin, plagued the back of his mind. He had meant for the kiss to satisfy his imagination, his curiosity. He now knew what it was like to kiss her, so he could be put at ease and focus solely on himself and Asami. But instead, that kiss left him more confused than ever.

He was sure. Asami may have been the easy path, but she he had to work for. At first, Asami had seemed like the logical choice, a reward given to him for enduring a life full of pain and suffering. But hadn't he worked hard for everything he achieved in his life? Everything that was good? So naturally, he would have to work for her, and that logic spoke to him loud and clear. She had everything he needed. She was the fire to his ice. Her beauty was understated, natural. She wasn't rich, but she was tough and they knew each other like the back of their hands. She knew just what buttons to push, what made him tick. She not only completed him, but balanced him out. So he kissed her, out on the snowy cliff. He swung her around in joy, not only for the return of her bending, but for having her finally in his arms. She made him laugh, a rare sound. As their lips met, felt deep within in him the dragon roar in triumph, spitting flames of inner fire; scorching his insides. So this is what it felt like. To kiss her, to love her, to no longer be torn. He was whole heartedly set on her. Before, with Asami, he knew where his life was headed; what the future held. But with her, their future together was shrouded in fog and shadow; unknown. Nothing was clear except that he loved her, and she loved him. And that terrified him. But now, he knew he had chosen the right girl, the right path, the right yet uncertain future. All sealed and confirmed with a kiss.

End
