2:30a.m. Taskforce
L growled in frustration. He put his files of Kira in his drawer and got up to go to the kitchen. He picked up a newspaper and a piece of cake from the refrigerator.
Kira On The Loose
He sighed frustrated again. He angrily shoved a piece of cake in his mouth. Just then Matsuda walked in the room.
"Its okay to be sad sometimes," he said in a southern accent.
"Matsuda, are drunk again?" L said emotionless.
"I just came to tell you that the unicorn won't leave me alone," he replied.
L looked down to see Matsuda carrying a bottle of vodka.
He snatched the bottle from Matsuda and dumped it in the sink. Matsuda whined.
"But seriously, there's a girl outside passed out on the sidewalk." He looked worried.
L was confused. "Matsuda don't be ridiculous. You are probably just hallucinating again. There is no body outside, no body would be awake much less outside at this hour," L said flatly.
"No. Really, there is a girl outside. I'm not kidding, if you'll just follow me I'll show you." Matsuda lead L outside in silence. To L's surprise, Matsuda wasn't being stupid for once.

Helena held still as she listened to them laugh and walk away. She had never been so frightened before. She held still even after they were long gone. She couldn't move. She was too weak. She then heard voices coming to inspect. Still too afraid, she didn't move.

"Matsuda, I apologize for doubting you. But, we shouldn't leave this woman here. She should be brought inside." L told Matsuda, his voice colored with concern.
L knelt down beside the girl and whispered, "Can you hear me? I mean no harm," he said gently. The girl's eyes flashed open. He could see her fear and knew that she didn't just pass out on the sidewalk.
"Can you walk?" he asked the young woman curiously. She stood up, and then fell back down. L caught her just in time. She lay limp in his arms. He picked her up and brought her into the taskforce, but not before noticing the bruises on her arms and legs, and the gash on her left palm.
"What has this girl been through?" he asked himself.
He laid her down on the couch and sat next to her, waiting for her to wake.
