Should've Known Better- Title credit goes to The Sick Puppies

"Anyone who knows the one and only Michelangelo Scarlatti knows that I'm just a stand in for a much better man. Lewis Young couldn't be here with us tonight, but I have a few words from my old friend. Please excuse my poor memory because I may not have perfect recall and it was a number years ago.

"He says to me one day, not long after we got a new face at headquarters. 'Yo Samtastic.' You laugh but it's true, moving on. 'Yo Samtastic, what do you think of the new dispatcher?'

"Of course he was referring to the beautiful Winnie Camden, excuse me Scarlatti. I'm sure most of you know that I only had eyes for Jules, but a blind man could see that Winnie's a knock out. I told Lou as much, told him he should go for it that he should ask her out but he looked at me like I was crazy, all he said was, "Nah, man she's not for me." I thought it was odd but let it go, Lou was a pretty strange guy. Nothing compared to his best friend though.

"Few weeks later Lou's sitting in the locker room staring a hole at a picture of him and Spike that was up his locker, I didn't even know that he knew I was there until he said: 'I liked you and Jules together, even though I never really saw you together.' Obviously I couldn't say anything to that because that would be admitting that I was ever in a relationship with her in the first place. Then he says, 'It's not the only interoffice, or I guess I should say inter-task-force, romance I like. How long do you think it'll take Spike to ask out Winnie?'

"Now, I didn't agree with him, I mean Spike and Winnie? Winnie's way to good for the Geek, right? Any one can see that. Well, clearly I'm an idiot because they are kind of perfect together. But the real mistake I made wasn't thinking that Spike didn't stand a chance, the real mistake I made was to agree to a bet with the man. A hundred dollar bet. I should've known better than to agree to a bet against Lou that had anything to do with Spike.

"I know that he's not here to collect and that most people would say that means I'm in the clear, that I can forget about the deal I made. But I can't, in good conscience, let this one go. I didn't bring cash; instead I brought Spike a rather expensive bottle of scotch. Hopefully he thinks this makes me even.

"So let's raise our glasses, because God Dammit Lou was right, she's making him the happiest I've ever seen him. I'm glad I was wrong."
