Chapter 1

A/N: Lately, I've wanted to experiment with various shippings other than Percabeth. Recently, Operation: Pothena was a huge success. Now, I want to experiment with Leyna. There may not be a lot of Leyna shippers but I want to prove you all wrong. Leyna shippers, I hope you like this. The original version of chapter one is obviously being replaced so hopefully it will have a better base. So let's get this party started. Also, if you like this story and would like to follow my progress but don't have an account, follow me on Twitter PJOUnknown for news, updates, and a little bit of fun with the cast.

Percy: I would get a Twitter, but with the technology issue with demigods, I don't think it's a good idea

Annabeth: Yet I can use my laptop which isn't on any monster's radar. He never asks

Percy: Because you would never say 'yes'

Annabeth: You don't bother asking. You assume too much

Percy: OK then. May I create and use a Twitter account on your laptop?

Annabeth: No, I'm busy designing Olympus

Percy: You finished weeks ago!

Me: Guys, not now. Ahem, I don't own PJO or HoO. All characters belong to Rick Riordan. I'd love to meet him and pick his brain though

Annabeth: Picking a brain is fun

ON WITH THE SHOW!

3rd POV:

Camp Jupiter: the new Rome of the Western world. The only place in the world that can house entire generations of demigods located south of the Berkeley Hills and East of Mt. Diablo. Here, demigods got in touch with their military side of life and strive to keep the legacy of Rome alive. That very legacy was being threatened every day since the fall of Gaea, goddess of the Earth. Same old conflicts.

Tensions have risen since the crowning of two new gods of Olympus. Two Olympians and Rome had no choice but to notice them. What was challenging was the fact that the two new gods were once a part of the Titan race. Even the rising powers of the Greek world had shaken Camp Jupiter a little bit. Well, it shook up a few people. One of those people happened to be the augur: Octavian.

Inside the city of New Rome, a senate meeting was taking place. Centurions and senators alike sat in the Senate House listening to Octavian rant about the 'rising threat from the East'. Praetors Jason and Reyna listened to his speech (much to their distaste) with their respected partners nearby. Reyna donned her usual purple shirt and jeans with her toga and purple cloak, but she also wore another accessory. On her right ring finger was a gold band ring. Etched into the metal was a simple phrase written in both Latin and Greek. Lead by example. The ring was a gift from Leo after the treaty was in place. The first step into her heart.

"…and in conclusion, the Giant War has left us defenseless while our enemies, the Greeks, grew stronger with their powers. The children of the Big Three guard the Greek camp from anyone who dares threaten it. An armament from them only means that they are ready for another war. I propose that we send them a warning, saying that Rome will never fear them and will not submit to any confrontation!" Octavian announced.

Applause rang from the various senators and centurions. Frank, Leo, and Piper on the other hand, were not amused. "He can't say that! They are trying to rebuild without another war interrupting them. He's a pile of schist," Frank said.

Piper elbowed him to shut him up. Too late. "Centurion Frank, do you have anything to say?" Reyna announced.

Frank gritted his teeth. "There are a lot of things I could say right now," he mumbled. He eyed Jason. He slowly shook his head and put a finger to his lips. Frank knew pretty well that Octavian was a well-respected person in the legion. Intolerable maybe, but respected. His auguries have aided them through some difficulties the world threw at them.

"No Praetor, I do not," he said.

Reyna nodded in approval. She faced Octavian. "Well, Centurion Frank is right about one thing. Camp Half-blood is trying to rebuild after our attack. An attack that—"

"—deserved to happen. Camp Half-blood sent their warriors, kidnapped our praetors, destroyed New Rome, and managed to cross into forbidden waters only to pummel us in the end and force us into a treaty! We fought for Rome!" Octavian announced.

Chatter started to rise from the stands. Octavian grinned. "Besides, what have they done to earn our respect?"

Reyna stood. "Perseus Jackson saved all of us. He ventured off with our best soldiers to Alaska and retrieved our legion standard—" she motioned to the gold staff that stood next to her chair. "—Annabeth Chase located the Athena Parthenos and saw it delivered by the Seven to its rightful place. Nico di Angelo freed the couple and helped seal the Doors of Death, giving us the advantage over the giants. And, they also repaired the Mist when it fell and exposed our world. The Greeks have done more than we ever could! Dare we repay them with war after they lost so much?"

Octavian opened his mouth, but no sound came out. Piper and Leo snickered while Jason gave them a quick wink. "Well, what about your boyfriend? He fired at New Rome while we recovered from a war that took place the day earlier. They attacked while we were healing! Who's the barbarian?! Who can't be trusted?!"

Reyna glared. "Leave Leo out—"

"What makes us think you didn't orchestrate it? You sent him to the boat where dit was heavily armed to the teeth and began to fire on us in a peaceful city? You could've told him how to get past us! Maybe—"

Reyna snapped. She jumped down and tackled Octavian. She thrusted a knee into his ribs and held his head down on the ground. "How dare you suggest mutiny Octavian. I've known you since you first arrived and even though you were a pain, I let it go. For you to suggest that I had a part in the attack, which had nothing to do with either myself or Leo, is just asking for a punishment meant for our enemies."

"But I—"

"You will silence yourself Octavian before you meet a woman's fury," she said through gritted teeth.

Octavian gulped nervously. Reyna stood and cleaned herself up. "We are not to march onto Camp Half-blood and declare war. We have enjoyed an era of peace, and I want us to continue basking in its light. The second Pax Romana will live on."

With that, Reyna exited the building, unofficially deeming the meeting adjourned.

Reyna slammed her door shut as she stomped toward her bed. Aurum and Argentum looked up at their master and walked over to her. Reyna forced a smile as she petted her companions. Leo had programmed them to act just as loving as any real dog, even sense her emotions. They knew what has happened.

She sat down at her bed and stared at the ceiling. Painted on it was a mural to the Seven. Even with Nico included, they were known as the Seven. Percy Jackson and Jason Grace were in the front wearing their appropriate clothing. In the background behind Jason, Reyna spotted herself with the legion standard in her arms. A weapon she loved to use.

Across her was Nico di Angelo with his Stygian Iron sword drawn. When she first heard of Nico's ties with Camp Half-blood, she was pretty upset. Over time, Nico proved to be a force of good for both sides so she let his deception go.

"I guess humans have those days where they wish they weren't made for great things. I'm not sure if you'll understand, but I really wish I wasn't praetor. Sure it's a great position, but sometimes it doesn't feel right to know that every day is a challenge. I'm glad that Jason came back and Leo was there to help me, but I don't think it's enough," she said.

She looked down at her pets. They bowed their heads. She reached out and petted both Aurum and Argentum. They both tilted their heads so she would have to scratch their ears. "It must be nice to not have any responsibilities, huh?"

They almost went into sleep mode before they suddenly rose up. Reyna looked up and saw nothing. Still, she knew that dog senses were better than human's so she grabbed her knife scabbard from under her pillow. "Um, who's there?" she called out.

Silence. Both the dogs were still on alert with their ears up. "Who's there?!"

A laugh suddenly echoed followed by a woman's voice. Dear Reyna, I thought you forgot about me, the voice said.

Panic surged through Reyna. "Gaea?"

The laugh reappeared. Stupid girl, of course not. Gaea was silenced by your pesky band of demigods. No child, I remain undefeated by you.

Reyna unsheathed her knife as a bright light entered the room. Reyna panicked as the light dimmed down. A woman appeared with a simple smile across her lips. Aurum and Argentum both growled at the intruder. With the flick to a wrist, the dogs were immediately shut down. "Lovely toys Reyna," she said.

She raised her knife. "Who are you?"

The woman chuckled. "Child, you have forgotten already? Well, I can't have that," she said. "And put that knife down before you hurt someone."

Immediately the handle turned super-hot. Reyna dropped it as it splattered on the ground. "Come, my child. We have some catching up to do," she said.

Reyna glared at her. "Never."

The woman chuckled. "That wasn't a request."

The woman flicked her wrist, and pieces of Aurum levitated around Reyna. Before she could run, the metal turned to rope and tied her up. A piece of metal turned into a cloth and used as a gag. Luckily, she was sneaky enough to remove her ring and hide it in her palm.

"Now let's visit your dear friend Hylla. I'm sure she would love to see you again," she said.

They both disappeared in a cloud of pink smoke. Reyna was quick to drop her ring in the middle of the teleportation. Such a system was made in case of an emergency. She would leave behind her ring alone with potential evidence to tell Leo that she was in danger.
