Laying on my back, the sun warms my face

What I've been told about them seems a disgrace

So wonderfully happy, glad to be free

I think, "Without him where would I be?"

An outline of black on the horizon afar

I wait and I watch for the first evening star

He's here now, laying near my side

Why did I, by those cruel laws abide?

He purrs contentedly as I snuggle in

His dark wing enfolds my, omitting the din

The noise from the village silences as I heave a deep sigh

Together we stare into the cloudless night sky

Out here in the meadow, I have a secret I'll never dare tell

My best friend's a dragon and yet all is still well
