My name is Catherine Deimos Charon, however everyone calls me Cat. I'm a ten year old orphan girl, who currently lives in Metropolis. My hair is a natural bright burgundy color, and I was born with two different color eyes. My right eye was a natural bright icy topaz blue color, as my left eye was a natural bright silver grey color. My hair was in the similar style as a vidogame character named Zexion from the kingdom hearts videogames series. Only my hair wasn't spikey, it was pretty flat, and was slightly longer then that of the videogame character's hair style. I was wearing a black hooded shirt that was two sizes too big on me, and black jeans with black shoes. I had my hood down as I was walking down the street. I also had a rather large, dark grey color, one shoulder strap backpack, that was slung over my shoulder.
I been an orphan for the past year or so. You see five years ago, a old woman, and her husband found me sitting in a snow bank one winter's day. I had no memories of who I was, where I came from, and the fact that I had no memory as too why, I was sitting in that snow snow bank in the first place. I was found wearing a necklace, as well as a black sleeveless tanktop, and matching black shorts. They insteantly took me in, and even adoupted me as their own granddaughter, after no one reported me missing and when no one came looking for me.
They also gave me a name, and they raised me as though I was their own child even though they adoupted me as their grandchild. Sadly they died last year in their sleep due to old age. I been alone ever since, trying too find out, who I really am, and were I come from. The only clue, that I had to my mysterious past was this thin metal chain, that held a silver emblum of a bat, with a gold symbol in the center of it that looks like Superman's crest on it. The very same necklace, that was found around my neck, when David, and Lisa Charon found me wearing.
I wore my necklace under my hooded shirt, so it couldn't be stolen off my neck from other people. Who are either homeless like myself, thieves in general, or from other orphan kids that live on the streets like myself. While I was walking down the streets of Metropolis, I was lost in my memories or thoughts. My mysterious past was bothering me, however the loving memories that I do have of my adoupted grandparents seemed to help me deal with my situation of lost memories.
While lost in my thoughts, I accidently bumped into a man wearing a suite with large glasses. It honestly felt like I walked into a brick wall or something. Pushing that thought a way I took a better look at the man I had accidently bumped into. He looked like a total nerd, in my honest opinion of the guy. "Sorry sir...I wasn't paying attention to where I was going." I said softly as I looked up too meet his bright blue eyes behind his glasses. He gives me a warm friendly smile as his eyes seem to soften at the sight of me.
"It's okay miss...no harm done." The man said as his smile never seemed to leave his face. "Excuse me." He said as he then left, and dissappeared into the Daily Planet.
I guess he was a reporter or something. I didn't really care, I had my own problems to worry about. I'm just happy he didn't question me, as too why I wasn't in school or something along those lines. I was about too leave, but something caught my attention insteantly. There on the ground was a brown leather wallet. Confused, and curious about it, I insteantly picked it up off the ground. Curiousity got the better of me as I then opened the wallet, too see what was inside it.
Let's see what we got here. I thought as I looked through the wallet carefully. Let's see...there is money, credit crads, a driver's lilence, and I also know who the wallet belongs to. It belongs to the man, that I just bumped into, a Mr. Clark Kent.
I'm then torn between doing the right thing by returning the wallet to it's rightful owner, or just taking the cash as I leave the wallet behind. Allowing some other person to deal with the wallet. I hate to say this, however it's the truth. If this was Gotham City, I would have taken the money, and left the wallet behind without hesitation. I also sound like a horrible person, as I think about doing something like that.
David and Lisa Charon, would be screaming at me, on how they had raised me better then that. So against the voice in my head, telling to just take the fricken money, I decide to return the wallet. It was not an easy choice to make, but I knew it was right thing to do. I walked towards the Daily Planet, while taking a few calming breaths too calm my nerves before I hesistantly go inside. To give back the wallet.
Inside the Daily Planet, it was huge as was as being pretty busy. I highly doupt anyone would have really noticed me, if I decided to exsplore the place or something. However I had no intention of doing so. I just wanted to return the wallet, and get the hell out of there as fast as possible. I then walked up too the front desk of the Daily Planet, despite how I felt like running out of this place, and never looking back. I really didn't want to be here.
The sooner I get this over with, the sooner I don't have to worry about being here. I just had to be the good guy, this time...didn't I? I told myself as I forced myself to the front desk.
"Excuse me...Miss?" I asked hesitantly outloud. The woman that was sitting at the front desk, then looked up at me in annoyance, as though she had to actually do some work or something. She was in the middle of painting her fingernails, this really ugly looking yellow color. She seemed to then forced a smile on her face, as she looked at me.
"How can I help you kid?" She asks me in this really fake cheerful voice, that anyone could easily tell was fake.
"I'm looking for a Mr. Clark Kent." I said softly. The woman was silent for a minute as she looked at me.
"Right up the stairs, and first door too the left. Here take this vistor pass, so I don't get in trouble, kid." The woman said handing me the pass. She looked very annoyed with me.
"Thanks." I said as I take the pass from her. The woman goes back too paiting her nails as she ignores me. I then slowly head up the stairs, no one even tries to stop me, or even questions me, as to why I was even there. I can't help but think, how the security sucks in this place, and to be perfectfully honest with ya, I honestly was disqusted with this place. I follow the woman's directions, until I see Mr. Kent sitting at his desk, and he was working. This makes me even more nervous about this whole situation. I don't really want to disturb him from his job, or interrupt him if he's doing something important.
Part of me screams to just keep the damn wallet and get the hell out of there. The other part of me calmly points out, how I came this far, and how I might as well finish the job. Sometimes I feel like I have a little devil, and a little angel on my shoulder trying to tell me what to do. I shake my head slightly to clear my thoughts. I eventually force myself to walk over too his desk.
"E-excuse me...mr. Kent?" I asked nervously. He looks up at me in surprise, and he had even jumped slightly. Since I had sort of startled him just now. You see I have this bad habbit of walking so quietly, that I can make people jump even if someone knows i'm right there in the same room as them.
"Yes miss?" Mr. Kent asked me as he's looking at me in curiousity.
"You...uh..sort of dropped this, when I accidently bumped into you earlier." I said handing him his wallet. His eyes widen in disbelief, shock, and surprise all rolled into one emotion. He then checks his pockets, only to find that his wallet really did fall out his pocket. He looks embarassed about this, especially when he sees that it really is his wallet. He had even opened the wallet to make sure it was his, and saw his driver's lisence, money, and credit cards were all there. Before he can say anything to me, a woman suddenly yells catching his attention insteantly, and nearly caused me to have a heart attack. I swore that I almost jumped out of my skin, besides scream when she did that.
"Hey Smallville, get over here! Perry wants-" She starts yelling but I tune her out.
My nerves are all shot to hell, right now. The way she had startled me like that, I almost clutch my chest to calm my fast beating heart. I basically use this distraction too leave rather quickly, and hopefully without being noticed. I walk away as silently as I can possibly manage, besides walking as fast as I can without running. No need to draw attention to myself. I don't even hear Clark's response too this woman or the rest of the woman's conversation with Clark.
I didn't really care, nor was I that curious too stick around to find out. It was also none of my business anyways. I did my good deed for today, and it was now time for me to leave. If I was much older, had some money on me, I most likely would have gone somewhere to get a very strong drink to calm my nerves. I sigh as I go back down the stairs. I then give the lady at the front desk the visitor pass back. She's so obvious too my presence, that I just leave the vistor pass on the desk in clear view, where she or anyone can easily locate it.
The security in this place is the pits...who the hell do I go to complain about this? I wondered as I then shook my head. Oh well it's none of my business, who ever hired this lady...really needs to scan his or her employees better. I then turn away from the main dest in order to leave this place.
However before I can actually leave, I hear Clark's voice calling out to me. "Miss, wait a minute!" Clark said, making me stiffen, as I had to resist the urge to bolt out of here as fast as I can. He walks over too me calmly, while I am forcing myself to stay put as I slowly turn to look up at him.
"I wanted too say thank you, for returning my wallet. Not a lot of kids, would have done that." Clark said with a smile to me.
"My grandparents raised me, to do the right thing...I...uh...have to go now sir." I said quickly as well as trying to be as polite as possible.
"What's your name?" He asked me.
"It's Cat, short for Catherine with a C not a K." I said calmly. I have no intention of revealing my middle or last name to him.
"Want me to walk you home?" He asked me in concern. I guess he was worried about me, or he was curious as to what a ten year old kid, was doing walking all alone in a big city or something like that.
"Thanks but I'll be okay, I don't live that far away from here...I have to go now. Bye, Mr. Kent." I said quickly before I take off as I basically run out of the Daily Planet, and dissappear into the busy crowd of people outside. I had left before he could say anything else to me. I just hope he wouldn't try to follow me. Once I was far enough away from the Daily Planet. I slowed my pace as I then slowed down to a normal walking pace with a soft sigh escaping my lips.
It sucks being an orphan. Well, at least it can't get any worse than this. Just as I thought that, it started too rain. My right eye begins twitching at this, as my mood begins to darken slightly.
"I just had to jinx myself." I said bitterly under my breath. In annoyance as I flip my hood up as I walked down the busy streets of the city. Not the first time I been out in bad weather before. The rain eventually started coming down harder, and faster. I sigh in annoyance, thankfully there is a place, that I been staying at for the last few days, where I can wait until the rain stops. I was soon soaked to the bone as I walked. I rounded a corner, and that is when I bumped into Lex Luthor.
Why the hell am I, bumping into people today?! I thought bitterly to myself.
"Sorry sir." I said softly as I looked up at him. He looks annoyed that I crashed into him, even though he forces a smile on his face. I was good at reading people's exspressions. I could easily detect who was lying, and who was truthful, just by their facial exspressions, by the way they talk, and be one hundred percent accurate each and every time.
"It's fine, kid...now you better run along home. Accidents do happen." Lex tells me before he walks away with a woman walking beside him. She simply glares at me before following her boss. I watch as they dissappear inside the building. I sigh in annoyance. I take only a few steps before something catches my attention, there was something on the sidewalk. Curious I bent down, and pick up the item that was on the ground. It appears to be a flash drive for a computer or something like that.
I then place the flash drive into my water proof backpack, before I start walking away. I know I should return the flash drive too it's owner, but there is a feeling inside me that tells me to just hang onto the flash drive for now. Also I had no proof that the flash drive belonged to Lex Luthor or if it belonged to someone else. I really don't know whose flash drive this belongs to. I just simply found it on the ground, and only the gods know how long it's being laying there or who it really belongs to.
Clearing my thoughts, I continued walking to the place where I been staying at. After a few minutes, I soon arrived at my destination. It's not much but at least it's dry. A large card board box with a dark blue tarp over the box too prent it from being soaked. I go inside, and wait for the rain too stop. I just hope, that I don't come down with a cold or something from being out in the rain as long as I have been.
I eventually start to wonder how Mr. Kent, had dropped his wallet in the first place. Was it on purpose or was it truely an accident? I eventually shook my head. Weird things always had a weird habbit of happening when you least expected it. I then carefully pull out my necklace, so I could look at it sadly. For all I know this necklace, could just lead me to a dead end.
It could have just been something cool, that I got from a shopping center, gift store or something like that. Since I have seen similar necklaces like mine inside stores as well. I just want to know who I really was, where I come from, and other things. I like my name, don't get me wrong...but I have to know the truth about myself. Why was I abandoned, what was I doing in that snow bank, and where do I come from?
However there was a very tiny part of me, that truely wondered, do I really want to remember who I was, before I was found in that snow bank. My eyes soon close as I sink deeper into my own thoughts. This has been one very long day for me.
