Birthday Blues
Disclaimer: I own nothing, except Olivia, Isabella and Ruben. Trust me, if I owned anything, there would be way more D/L pool table scenes.

Lindsay wiped her forehead as she stirred the cake mix, checking her recipe book to make sure it was just right. She sighed as a small hand tugged at her trouser leg. She looked down.
"Yes, Ruben?"
"Mommy, Olivia took my lightsabre and she won't tell me where she's put it!"
Lindsay sighed. "I wonder if that's because you took her princess tiara, hm?"
Ruben looked at the floor. Lindsay went back to the cake. She wondered why it had seemed like a good idea to throw two separate parties, a princess-themed tea party for Olivia and Isabella, and a Star Wars-themed party for Ruben. At least Danny was there to help out.
--
Two hours later, Lindsay stood back and admired her work. Both cakes had been baked and iced, and looked pretty darn good. The girls had a flower-shaped cake, with twirly writing, while Ruben's was a thick chocolate cake, with a lightsabre iced on the top.
Danny came into the kitchen and saw the cakes. "Wow! Those look amazing, Montana." He reached out to sample a piece, but not before his hand was smacked hard by Lindsay.
"Honestly Danny, you're worse than the children. Sometimes I honestly wonder if I have three kids or four."
They were interrupted by Danny's cellphone ringing. He looked at the caller ID and his face fell.
"Messer."
Lindsay closed her eyes and prayed that it wasn't who she thought it was, that somehow, it could be somebody else…
"Sure, whatever." Danny hung up and looked at Lindsay apologetically. "I'm really sorry, Linds, but there's a triple homicide and the lab is really snowed under just now. Mac promised he'd let me off as soon as he can, but there's no guarantee."
Lindsay turned back to the cakes, determined not to let Danny see her tears. He silently left, knowing that it was best to leave Montana alone when she was upset.
--
Lindsay laid out the last of the flower plates for the tea-party. The room had been decorated with cardboard cut-outs of castles, and there were little cake stands full of pink cupcakes, biscuits and candy. The dining room had already been set up for Ruben's party, with lightsabres at each chair, and Star Wars goodie bags for the boys to take home. She looked wistfully at Danny's Darth Vader costume, disappointed that he wouldn't be able to wear it. She looked down at her pink princess dress. Danny had said she looked beautiful in it, and he wasn't even going to get to see her wear it properly.
There was a loud knock at the door. She looked at the clock; it was a little early. Nonetheless, she opened it, and was amazed to see the entire team there, in full costume and carrying large presents.
"Surprise!"
Stella and Kendall were dressed in dresses similar to Lindsay's while Mac, Don, Hawkes, Adam and Sid were all in Jedi suits. Danny pulled Lindsay into a hug and began to kiss her.
"Ewww! Gross!"
Danny and Lindsay looked up and saw the children coming down the stairs, the girls in matching purple dresses and Ruben in his Darth Maul costume. They saw their aunts and uncles in full costume, carrying presents, and went wild.
Danny and Lindsay stood back and smiled, as the other kids began to arrive. Maybe this party wasn't going to be so bad after all…
