Chapter 1

Riding the train my sixth year to Hogwarts was peaceful. I sat all alone in the cabin reading the muggle book I smuggled onto the train. I knew if other Slytherins saw the book I'd become even more of an outcast. I had almost every trait a good Slytherin should have; Pureblood, intelligent, quick witted, proper manors all of us are raised with and most importantly, attractive. I always knew I was beautiful I just was a bit of a wallflower. I have my mother's long blonde hair, my father's blue eyes and the fairest skin I've ever seen. My mother says I get it from my great grandmother. I stare out the window of my cabin deep in thought over what happened this past summer.

Flashback

I'm sweating and shaking from head to toe. I cry out for my mother. She rushes in the room. "Oh god Ellis! It's happening!" Mother cries out for my father. He rushes in the room sliding over to my bed in his slipper socks. He starts stroking my hair as intense heat spreads through my body. The pain slowly becomes too much and I black out.

When I finally awaken I can hear the voices of my mother talking to someone. "It has been a week Your Majesty. Shouldn't she be awake by now?" she says sounding tired. "She is waking up now Orabella. A voice as calm as a babbling brook states. I try to open my eyes but the light hurts them and I let out a low growl. "Get the lights you fool!" someone from across the room barks at my mother. I've never seen her to compliant that she listens to someone without question. Soon the only light is coming from the full moon outside. I look around and first spy my mother worry and exhaustion etched into her feature. "Mother?" I croak out. She rushes to my side to give me water. Once I've had my fill I take another look around the room and see a woman with medium blonde hair that curls at the end looking like the waves of the ocean. Her eyes are the bluest of blues I've ever seen and she gives me a small smile before bowing her head. "Welcome my child." Her voice instantly calms me. I look over to the corner where a woman in silver robes has her face hidden in the shadows. She steps forward and her features much like my mother are blonde with silver eyes. "Nice of you to finally join us." She says with a slight sneer. "What's going on?" I ask timidly. "My dear Rose I have to tell you somethings about our heritage that I was hoping to never have to tell you." My mother says stroking my hair. "Get on with it girl." The woman in the corner says. "Your father is a Veela making you half Veela." Mother says concern in her eyes. I'm shocked but can feel somewhere in me that she is telling the truth. "Told you she would take it well." The gruff woman states crossing her arms. "And I…I am a Water Nymph, well mostly. Your great grandfather was a wizard but his wife, your great grandmother, was a Water Nymph." She says. I can see the fear of rejection in her eyes. "So I'm a Water Nymph?" I ask. "No my child. You are a Nymph but you won't know what type until you are 18 years of age." The woman with the calming voice. "But don't worry dear there have only ever been Water Nymphs in our family." My mother says patting my hand. I start to hyperventilate as more pain spreads through my body. "She's going into shock!" the woman with silver hair says rushing forward before I fall back on my pillow.

End flashback

I was jostled out of my thoughts by the train turning. I can see Hogwarts on the horizon and put my book away. I quickly change my robes and get ready to leave the train.

I step off the train and try to blend into the background. I take a carriage that is empty and pray that nobody else gets on. I'm not that lucky as a small blonde with funny glasses steps on. "Hello." She says in a dreamy voice. I nod at her and keep my mouth shut. "I'm Luna Lovegood, people call me Loony." She says with a smile. "That's a shame." I say before stopping myself. "I'm quit used to it." She says with a faraway look. "I'm Primrose Caswell." I say with a small smile. "I know," she giggles, "I can sense it you know." I look utterly confused or I must have because she explained what she meant. "You are Veela, like me." She smiles dreamily. "Don't worry you aren't alone. There are many fantastical creatures here this year." She says before reading her magazine upside down. We sit in silence all the way to the castle.

I sit at the very end of the Slytherin trying to avoid eye contact with everyone. Dumbledore gets up to do his normal speech and I zone out until the very end. "And lastly, there is an abundances of magical creatures and beings here this year that all have mates. As such we will have dances once a month in order to make it easier to find your mate. Once found you will be separated into groups of 5 pairs and given your own dorm rooms. When all of age children find their mates we will make a table for them at the front of the great hall. This year will be great for house unity. Now without further ado let the feast being." He claps his hands and the tables are covered in all manner of food. But nobody was eating, there was just a lot of silence and staring. I slowly take some turkey and cranberry sauce and picked at it. Before long everyone filed out of the hall.

I walk to the Slytherin common room and up to bed. I see only one other bed in the room. Pansy Parkinson walks in and just looks at me confused. "So….What creature are you?" she asks bluntly, getting undressed for bed. "Um…Veela and Nymph." I answer. "Well I'm an Erinyes, it means Furies. I'm a direct descendant of Megaera who was known as the grudge bearer. Every woman in my family has been a Fury going all the way back to her." She states turning up her nose. I nod and sit down on my bed drawing the curtains to my bed.

I decide since we have the first day off the get settled to go to the library to research being Veela and Nymph. I walk to the Creatures and Magical Beings section. I find a book on Nymphs first.

'The word Nymph literally translates to "young maidens". Nymphs are of Greek origins and are nature spirits. There are 2 types of nymphs with 8 total subspecies.

Dryads (Hamadryads): Oak Tree Nymphs.

Naiads: Fresh Water / Fountain Nymphs. Naiads lived for a long time, but were mortal. They had healing powers, but they would bring madness to those who angered them.

Meliads: Ash Tree Nymphs.

Melids: Fruit Tree Nymphs.

Oreads: Mountain / Cave Nymphs.

Oceanids: Ocean Nymphs

Nephaeae: Glen / Valley Nymphs.

Nereids: Sea Nymphs

Some of the changes that happen is that when a Nymph turns 18 they come into their full power, before then they will be intoned with the power but not able to use it. The magic can change the physical appearance of the Nymph but it is very rare. Nymphs can only be females.'

I decide to check out that book for later and look for a book on Veela next. Finally I find one.

'Veela are a mix between Furies and Harpies. In human form they are beautiful people usually with blonde hair. But if a Veela feels threatened or angered they take on their true form, which consists of large bird like wings with soft feathers, claws protrude from the nail beds and fangs. Of the set of fangs are there are 2 large canines that elongate over the lips, each one equipped with a venom that is deadly to anyone who isn't their mate. A vela comes into their power on or around their 17th birthday and will have only a year to find and bond with their mate. Once a Veela bonds with a mate it is for life and recognized as a marriage in the wizarding world. If the Veela does not find their mate within the year or the mate rejects them they will die within the week after. Veela's are highly territorial and only goal in life is to make their mate happy.' I take the two books to the librarian and go back to my dorm to read them.
