Author's Note: Originally written for the hp100 community on Livejournal, in response to the prompt "Fall". Its title is inspired by the song of the same name from the musical Jekyll and Hyde, particularly the line that I've quoted at the beginning.

I am claiming no credit for the song. Music by Wildhorn, lyrics by Bricusse.

This is the Moment

I won't look down, I must not fall. This is the moment, the sweetest moment of them all

With only seconds left to live, he wondered how he could spend his last moments giving his precious memories to the boy who had seen his worst one. James Potter's son, a living reminder of the person Snape had hated most. And the person he'd loved the most. But he, Severus, wasn't living, not any more -

As his eyes made contact with Harry's for the last time, he knew he hadn't fallen so low. This was, if ever he had one, his finest hour.

For you, Lily.

And maybe, what was it Dumbledore used to say? For the greater good.
