The thunder cracked through the apartment, causing a certain coolkid to hide further under the pile of blankets and pillows that was his bed. The power cut out and he yelped, shaking. This was so not cool. If his bro could see him now, he'd be shaking his head at this display of uncoolness. And then he'd go get coco and a flashlight to make him feel better.

Dave sighed softly as he thought of his brother, not noticing his roommate slip in and under the covers with him.

"K-Kinda freaky, huh?" John asked, giving him a nervous smile.

Dave looked shocked. He wasn't the only one? "Yeah…" he mumbled, watching John cautiously as he chuckled nervously.

"I've always hated storms. Dad taught me a trick when I was little. He'd give me a piece of cake and every time there was lightning I had to eat until I heard the thunder. Before I knew it the cake was gone and so was the storm." He said softly, smiling shyly.

Dave smiled back a bit. He wasn't as emotionless and stoic as everyone thought he was. He could let his guard down around his friends.

John slipped back out of the covers and pulled Dave with him, sitting him in front of a piece of cake. "We should do this, just to make ourselves feel better." John said, nodding mostly to himself.

Dave chuckled and waited for the lightning, jumping a bit and only managing a bite of cake before the thunder came. He smiled at the rich devil's food cake in his mouth. John knew what he liked best.

The two sat in silence as they ate the cake, slowly going through it until the thunder was gone. By the end they were laughing and joking with each other about how their respective guardians would be proud of their bravery.

John smiled at Dave and hugged him tightly before going to clean up their dishes. The coolkid sat back, smiling a bit to himself. Sure they were just friends but it was times like this that made Dave's heart beat just a little bit faster. Even if nothing ever came from this companionship he knew he would always have the best friend a person could ask for. And what kind of person would he be to hate the idea of that?
