A/N: For Michael. (Hey kids, can you say continuity errors?) First time approaching Mister Zack Fair, who is quite amazing. Reviews are awesome sauce.
Fair
Zack Fair isn't a guy who's about to start worrying about anything. He knows this mission is important: Sephiroth's gone over it at least a hundred times, and while he looks up to the man, he's got to admit the General's got to take a break.
It's Nibelheim we're talking about here, sweet little town called Nibelheim that happens to have a mako reactor on the mountain nearby. Sure, we need to make sure it's getting regulated, but it's not like the people are going to have anything to hide.
They're small town people, like pretty Tifa Lockhart, sixteen and sure to be snatched up by a man soon in her miniskirt and cowboy boots and long long brown hair. What could they possibly hide?
The General only says that looks can be deceiving.
All's fair in love and war so Zack lets it go.
---
Cut to the General discovering just what he really is.
Cut to his mother floating, suspended, wanting the world around her dead.
Cut to his father laugh-laugh-laughing, oh Sephiroth, aren't you just perfect?
All's fair in love and war but Sephiroth can't let this go.
---
Guess the small town people of Nibelheim have something to hide after all.
---
Cut to that same sweet little town called Nibelheim engulfed by flames. Cut to those small town people with blood oozing out of their stomachs, with white wide eyes on fire and their charred lips suspended, gaping at the meteor-colored sky.
All's fair in love and war but Zack can't let this go and he won't, he has to avenge these people who didn't do anything and who didn't deserve this and who made him realize his hero wasn't much of a hero at all.
---
Cut to Tifa Lockhart's father dead and Tifa crying over his limp wrists and her red eyes flashing bright with hate.
Cut to her at the bottom of the stairs, depending on a promise to heal her, angry with the first man she sees because he's not the one she wanted to see.
All's fair in love and war and Zack knows Tifa has a right to hate him, look at what the people he's associated with, look what they did.
But he can't let this go and that sends him up the stairs demanding Sephiroth just who the hell he thinks he is, the world's next savior or something, only when it turns out that he does, he doesn't realize how deep he's gotten himself into (and maybe he should've learned a long time ago to let go).
---
Cut to the basement of the Shinra mansion and no way out and chains in the rotting walls and floating dead things around them.
Maybe all's fair in love and war, but like hell is Zack going to let go.
He's not going to die like this.
He's got to go out with a bang.
He'll get out and find a much better way to bite it, once he's ready for it.
All's fair in love and war, so he just might get his wish.
