Disclaimer: Harry Potter is to J K Rowling as Not Harry Potter is to me.
That Which Drives Us
Hope
Fred and George Weasley
Youth and hope are synonymous. You have all the chances in the world to make people laugh, to impress the very Earth with your cleverness. So you do your best every day, looking forward to the future and the wonders that it will bring.
Fear
Peter Pettigrew
The world is spinning, and you cannot handle it. You find yourself outside, without the protection of your friends. People are dying everywhere, every day. You know that you could be next. So you turn traitor, make a deal with the Devil, betray your friends... Call it what you will. You just aren't strong enough. Not like they are. You need someone to shield you from the dangers of the night. Even if that someone is the night itself.
Love
Lily and James Potter
You die. For love of country, for love of friends, for love of a son who will grow up parentless and unwanted, you die. It is as simple and as difficult as that.
Hate
Lord Voldemort
Hate is reciprocal. You were always hated and feared, so out of necessity, you hated in return. Never loved, never cared. You only took your hate and cultivated it, nursed it until it was ready to be unleashed upon the world. And now that you have, now that you have cut its chains and let the chaos run free, you laugh.
Desire
Sirius Black
There are so many things that you have been deprived of: Freedom, friends, justice, happiness... Things that you sorely miss. These are your reasons for existing, and you will retrieve them. Pity the fool who comes between you and your desires.
Pain
Remus Lupin
When your best friend kills all of your other friends, pain is the only thing left to you. It drives you, consumes you, keeps you going. Your existence (calling it a life at this point would be a cruel mockery)
is simply painful memories and regrets. You give up on happiness. You begin to define yourself by your pain, reveling in it. Those around you worry, try to help, but you ignore them. The people you care about can only be found in your memories, in your past.
In your blissful, mind-numbing pain.
Wisdom
Albus Dumbledore
After so many winters, you can see paths invisible to others. You know that these paths will be filled with sorrow and danger, yet you lead loved ones down them all the same. In the end, you know that everything will work out for the best. You know. You just pray that this will not be the time that your wisdom fails you, that you will not have condoned such suffering needlessly.
With great knowledge comes great responsibility.
Blindness
Cornelius Fudge
You refuse to believe it. This cannot happen, not again. Simply preposterous. So you move on, ignoring the whispering voice that tells you the truth. The voice that urges you to hide, to cower in fear. Instead, you stare straight ahead, seeing nothing. Blindness is safer than sight, after all.
Yes, this one was a little strange. However, I've been trying to write at least once a week, based on a list of prompts I have. Since I wrote it, I figured I'd submit it for feedback. Please review!
