A silver haired man who looked to be in his mid-forties stood behind the counter of his bakery, he was muttering to himself. Why had he baked these? He only knew of one person who even ate them. He made sure that he staggered the cookies to give them a decorative look on the plate. He had not even planned to bake them it rather just happened. It had been long time since he had heard from her. He wondered what she was up to.
The clouded gray eyes stared at the sign. She could not believe he really named it that, then again it was Ozpin. He had really lost it this time. She sighed deeply. She glanced in the window. Her former headmaster seemed to be busy with something he was plating to see her peaking in. She noticed the fact he still was still wearing his usual clothes. Oum he had not changed in nine years. It was hard to believe, the only real noticeable change was that worry lines were starting to show on his face now.
The bell rang as someone entered the shop. The owner's honey colored eyes took in the one customer of the day. They widened in recognition for a moment, a smile pull at his lips. As the young woman sat down, her ash blonde hair had a look as though she had tried to tame if after a long time of just letting do what it wanted. She put her elbows on the counter.
"Heard you lost the head job." Came the quiet tone.
"I did not lose it, I retired." He said plainly while putting a plate of three or four of the cookies in front of her.
"You keep….." She stopped at the sight of the cookies. "Sprinkles, you remembered." She was her absent minded remark.
"How could I forget, you are the only person I've ever met whose favorite food is a topping." Came the tone that she remembered. He was seeming to prep something else but stop himself. "You drink coffee, it was Azul who drank tea." A painful silence fell between the two of them for a moment. Thinking about the visitor's former partner was difficult for both of them. "How are things in the wild?"
"Not bad," She shrugged then she took a bite of a cookie. "Just as good as I remember." She smiled. "I wanted to let you know that, there are a lot of grimm building up along the walls. I'm not sure why." The silence returned as Ozpin placed the coffee in front of his former student.
"What have you heard?" Ozpin asked. "It must be something Liadan, you don't come into any of the kingdoms for just a visit."
"Can't a girl just come visit her old favorite teacher?" She teased while resting her chin on one hand.
"If you where anyone else, then I wouldn't have questioned it." Ozpin pointed out. "But you tossed society away a long time ago. I never thought you come back after your grandparents passed away." He sighed. "You could have just sent a message about the grimm. Also you wouldn't have known you don't come this close to the city usually, to notice something like that."
"They are trying to get their sentence committed." Came Liadan's quiet reply. "They claim it's too cruel to kill them." Ozpin came around the counter and placed his hand on her shoulder.
"I hadn't heard about that." He said. He knew that what had happened was still haunting her to this day. "I don't think that will happen. I won't let it."
"You've lost your power."
"No, I've lost my position. Not my status."
"I'm sorry about your job." She wrapped her arms around him in a hug.
"Yeah me too." He returned the embrace. He had not really realized he had needed it.
