Chapter One: TKOed
After wandering the Chinatown of Seattle for what seemed like forever, I finally thought, so what now?
Around five hours ago, I had been fired from being a part-time waitress at Al's Diner. It happened because of my co-worker, who tried to touch my "milkshakes" when I was cooking french-fries, so he ended up with a second degree burn on his legs.
Hey, that tough guy had it coming from day one, calling me baby and grinning at me like he was a fat guy and I was a Slurpee or some disgusting stuff like that.
Taking a sharp right turn on blah Street, I reached my small apartment complex across from Wang's Palace, the dim sum place where the Northwest Chinese Mafia operated, as word on the streets said that the owner was the head of the whole syndicate.
"Maria-san," my short Japanese neighbor greeted me slyly as I fumbled around in my coat-pockets for my keys.
"Kuro," I replied, not making eye contact with his dark, red eyes that were drilling into my head.
"Yao wants to know if you want to join his crew," he stated boredly, taking out his small pocketknife and tracing the blade over one of his dragon tattoos on his forearm slowly. "He said that he'd pay you double what Al is offering, with a little extra if you wanted." With that last part, he smiled a little.
Who the heck is Al? And WHY would he hire me? To be part of his "crew" as Kuro calls it, but more accurately is gang of misfits who have no free will, and solely live to serve their leader.
"Tell your brother the only way I would join his crew is if he can beat the shizznit out of me and kidnap me." I said to Kuro as I glared at him before opening and shutting the door in his face.
"People these days," I growl before ripping off my black shirt along with my distressed jeans and flopping on my couch. Maybe I should go back to street-fighting for some quick cash…but I've given that life up already, and there's no turning back. I grabbed a pillow from the floor and shoved my face in it. "Tornilyo ang lahat ng ito*, I'm going to sleep." I cursed onto the fluffy down before falling into asleep right on the spot, totally forgetting what I told to Kuro.
~P.O.V. change, to Kuro~
As soon as Maria slammed the door in my face, I pulled out my cell and dialed my brother. "Kon'nichwa buraza**, it seems Maria-san will have to join your crew by force, as she rejected my offer."
I laughed slightly before my older brother answered.
"Ayah, I suppose we shall have to take her by force then, shi ma***?" Yao said conclusively.
"Un****." I respond before hanging up. I crack my knuckles slowly before trying the door. To my slight surprise, it swung inwards to lead into a small living room. Taking notice of the blaring television, I assumed Maria was the person on the couch in front of me snoring, oblivious to what was about to go down. I walked carelessly over to the television and turned it off, as it might attract someone's attention and turned to face Maria. Gently, I put the chloroform rag in front of her sleeping face and let her take a whiff, just in case she wasn't asleep. I then threw her over my shoulder and exited her cramped apartment. Well, that was way too easy.
