Diamonds, pearl, emeralds – they all meant nothing. She could have everything. She wanted something she couldn't have - something unobtainable. That's what Cheri got.

Dan Hiri Weller was the thing she wanted – handsome, talented, respect, loving but ultimately unobtainable. After the birth of his son – Conrad – he stayed by her, but only for a while, then left, as could be expected of him – a wanderer, a swordsman. Cheri had another son with another man, but he still stayed in her heart – the object of her purest desire, even through age.

"Wolf—" she whispered to her youngest child as he sits on her lap while she sits on her thrown turning away yet another batch of marriage proposals. Many were noblemen from respectable families, some were idols of their world who wished to marry one as beautiful and respectable as Cheri, but she didn't want them, "—never want the unobtainable, darling."

Cheri would always want the unobtainable.

The child looks up to her, innocent. "This is you beautiful and incredibly intelligent mother's advice, so you'd better listen," she whispered, stroking his hair, "never want something you know you can't have. Give up on it. Let it go and move on."

Oh, how Wolfram could have used that advice in the future.
