Why We Really Go Crazy There
Dear Harry Potter,
You've all heard that people go crazy in Azkaban, thats obvious, but it's not the dementors powers that really get to you, it's something much, much worse! Sometimes the dementors get bored and they decide to ammuse themselves with a "game". You learn early on to fear it...they delight in "breaking in" the new ones. They get terribly excited when it's time to "play". It's the worst experience you'll ever have. They choose one to be the "it" so to speak. Usually a maximum security prisoner because they have more emotion. Yes, I was chosen to be a victim of their twisted ammusement more than once! Somehow, though I managed to stay sane thorugh the ordeals. The prisoners have even come up with a name for it...they call it "Spin-the-Convict" usually, if your lucky, someone will whisper a rather cryptic warning about it to you through the bars as soon as the people who brought you in have left.
This is what happens. You'll be sitting in your cell, especially after dinner, and they all start to get excited and move around a lot. Them you hear a door open, or worse, see your door open. They go into the cell of the appointed victim and drag him or her out. Thats when you start to hear the screams. Then they lay the person down on the floor in an open space and all of them except a "spinner" stand around him or her in a circle. Then the "spinner" grabs the convict's feet and gives a good push...the person in question starts to spin. If your lucky you can keep you fear and horror down to minimum level and they will eventually tire of the game and put you back into you cell. Some people finally crack though and then the "lucky" dementor who the convict's head ends up pointing towards gets to go give the convict a "kiss". You know what that means. Half the people in Azkaban who have had a dementor's kiss administered weren't meant to...they "lost" to the dementors in their "game"! The ministy never does anything about it because they figure it's one less convict to worry about releasing. I'm telling you this because I hope that you will be chosen minister next time, it's expected, and perhaps you can do something about this.
