"Now Would Be The Time"
Lyrics written by Keith Burns and Ira Dean
Sung by Trick Pony

My pager went off and I hurried out of my office just in time to catch
the elevator. Nothing different, it took the same amount of time,
sixteen seconds to be exact to get from the Psych floor to the ER. I
stepped out onto the floor and made my way to the admit desk.

"Someone paged for a psych consult?" I asked Randi who snapped her gum
at me and pointed behind me.

"Doctor Weaver, you're consults here." She said, and then turned her
attention back to a copy of InStyle magazine.

"Took you god damned long enough to answer the page." She grumbled. Her
eyes were the same. Sad every time she was around me. If she only knew
how I really felt. However I ignored her comments and focused on the
task at hand.

"Curtain three?" I asked. She nodded and I headed into the room.
"Hello, Mr. Dayton. I'm Doctor Legaspi. How are you today?"

All the while, I knew Kerry was back there. Still with that sad look in
her eyes.

*Deep inside I know that you've been hurtin'
And your bitter words were brought on by the pain
I said it's over
Now I'm not so certain
Baby if I knew you felt the same*

I unlocked the door and stumbled inside. As always, I threw my purse to
the ground and fell back on the couch, pressing the message light on
the answering machine.

"You have six new messages. First message received at ten twenty nine
A-M." I skipped to the last message. "Message received at nine forty
two P-M."

"Hi uh, Kim. It's me…it's ah Kerry. I'm just…calling to say I'm sorry
about today. I shouldn't have acted harshly towards you. Look, I have
something to give to you, so uh…I'll bring it by later tonight."

"End of message. You have no new messages."

*Now would be the time
To wrap your arms around me
To look me in the eye
Get down to the truth
Well my heart is on the line
Just reach out and take it
If there ever was a chance to change my mind
Now would be the time*

There was a knock at the door and I pushed myself up from the couch to
answer it. There she was, standing on my doorstep. Hesitantly, I opened
the door. "Hi Kerry…" I said, inviting her with my arm to come in.

*Word out on the street is you still want me
There's been a lot of talkin' goin' 'round
And right here at this moment you can show me
We could save this love from goin' down*

'I can't stay long Kim. I just came to give you this." She pulled me
into a loving kiss and then gave my hand a squeeze. "Call me if you
need anything." Before I could say anything she scurried out the door
and to her car.

I grabbed the phone while watching her get into the car and dialed the
number. I could hear it ring from where I was standing. "I need
something…" I said. "What?" She said, loud enough for me to hear
without the phone.

I paused, and then whispered into the phone. "You."

*If there ever was a chance to change my mind
Now would be the time*
