Hazel Grace walked into the park. Augustus Waters was sitting on the grass with his prosthetic leg stuck out in front of him. He greeted her with a smile which always made her heart flip. She pulled he oxygen tank over to him and sat cross-legged opposite him and smiled - it was always so easy with Augustus, never difficult to talk but still happy to relax in eachothers company. But today, Hazel had something in her throat, she was trying to gather up the courage to ask him what was so urgent, why he needed to talk to her right now because her heart was telling her that it wasn't just to see her. There was something in his smile, on his face...Augustus looked in Hazel's eyes. He could already see her heart breaking but he had to. " Hazel, I love you," his voice caught in his throat as he saw a tear run down her face, " I love you more than I can ever say, more than you could ever know. I love you and that's why I have to say goodbye. I'm sorry," Hazel stood up and turned away so he couldn't see the tears falling from her eyes. She heard him whisper, "I'm sorry" and he was gone, she was alone.
Hazel walked for 5 minutes until she was home. She knew her parents were out so she let herself in and lay on her bed as the tears dripped from her face. She sighed and looked around, all alone again just as what had happened with Kaitlyn, sure they still met up occasionally but the cancer pulled her away, became a wall between a 17 year old girl and a normal life. I thought Augustus was different she thought and the tears began to flow again. Her head was pounding and she pushed all thoughts out of her head as she closed the curtains, lay down and fell asleep.
