How long can this last?

...

They met in a very clichéd way. It was a club, with pounding music and flashing lights. The blonde had stolen the redhead's attention almost immediately, and they met on the dance floor. Names were exchanged before the two made their way back to the redhead's apartment. The morning after, the redhead woke up to a note and a number. He smiled and immediately dialed the blonde's digits.

...

The two have been together for a few weeks now. Back when they had first decided to start a more long-term relationship, the redhead told the blonde that what they were doing meant nothing and that while it had been one of the longest relationships he had ever had, that didn't mean that they were going to stay together forever. And the blonde immediately agreed. They were just a hookup that was lasting longer than expected. They both knew they were using each other, but the blonde...he's become attached to the older, but he outright denies it.

...

The blonde is paranoid. He now knows that he's in love with the redhead, and so he's just waiting for the day—the day that the redhead will leave him. He can't stop himself from falling, because ever since they met, he kept falling harder. The blonde tries his hardest to make everything seem normal, but the redhead has noticed. He's noticed the way the blonde always seems twitchy and restless. He's started asking questions. Then, one day, the blonde finally bursts and screams the words he's been holding in for so long. The younger immediately rushes off, leaving the redhead behind in the dust.

...

There's a knock at the door, and the blonde flings it open. There, drenched to the bone, is the redhead. Immediately, the blonde's eyes go wide with fear and surprise. He almost goes to slam the door, but the redhead stops him. The blonde's heart clenches. Is the redhead just there to yell at him? But then, the redhead speaks. And he speaks the words the blonde has never thought he'd ever hear from the other...

I love you...
