Sunset

Summary: I was absolutely certain everyone had lost their mind. There were no such things as vampires. There were no such things as werewolves. And there were certainly no such things as witches. And this couldn't be my grandfather expecting me to believe I was one.

Author's Notes: I'm normally not for original characters, because (like many of you, I'm sure) I've read so many Mary-Sure, my-OC-is-awesome-at-everything, my-OC-is-the-center-of-the-world fanfics that I cringe when I see more posted. But I read Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse all in one day – and then read them again, and again. It's such a realistic – well – reality that I couldn't escape it. And this story just came to me, spawned by the quote: "I'm out. I am a neutral country. I am Switzerland. I refuse to be affected by territorial disputes between mythical creatures. I don't care who's a vampire or who's a werewolf. If Angela turns out to be a witch, she can join the party too." (copyright Stephenie Meyer, "spoken" by Bella Swan.) And although this story is narrated by an OC, Ashlyn Stonebreaker, I've tried my best to make her the most grounded character you'll ever see. And don't worry, all the familiar gang will be in here.

So without further ado…

Preface

I raced against nature itself, and I wasn't sure I was the right person to be doing that.

First of all, I'm not very athletic, so I'm not very fast. The sun was sinking faster and faster below the mountains and I was running out of time.

Second of all, I'm not the type of girl who buts her head into other people's business. And here I was, fighting nature – not just the sun, but the nature of humans. And of werewolves, and of vampires.

But I guess I really wasn't any of the above, so I was just following my own nature.

I was probably still going to die.

Because even if I got there before that last ray of sun disappeared, Alice had seen it. Sam had promised it.

I glanced at the mountain. The sun, ever-cheerful, waved a lazy ray at me.

I was going to be dead in less than five minutes.

Permanent Disclaimer: Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse are all books written by and belonging to Stephenie Meyer. Seeing as this is a fan fiction, the definition of being 'fiction by the fans,' it is obviously not my property. None of the Cullens, Swans, Blacks, or anyone else's name found in her pages belong to me. The only characters who do are Ashlyn and her family, so please ask me before you go borrowing them. Thank you very much. Reviews are appreciated. Vittaria
