A/N: This is my first fanfic so reviews are greatly appreciated. I will even take flames! Fluffy angst warning!
My Cellar Door
How could this have happened?
This is all Frank's damn fault! He could have just let the stupid jet engine crush me and everything would be fine. But no, he just HAS to lead me away and give me this bullshit about how the world is going to end. Well I've got news for him, the world just ended. At least mine did anyway.
Gretchen. She WAS my world. Then he had to kill her. But now I can set things right again.
I'm lying in my bed, waiting for the jet engine to turn me into a pancake.
Because if I die now, she can live. And her life is worth so much more than mine ever will be.
Wait, there's someone climbing in through my window. It's probably Frank, trying to "rescue" me again. There's no way I'm going with him this time. No damn way.
"Donnie?"
I know that voice. But it can't be.
"Gretchen? What are you doing here? How can you even remember anything?"
She climbs inside and sits on the edge of the bed.
"This creepy guy in a bunny suit who calls himself Frank came to me. He helped me remember everything."
Her voice is coming out in short bursts now. It takes me a few seconds to realize that she's crying.
"H-he told me what you were planning to do. Donnie, why? I'm not worth it. And we're twenty-eight days in the past now, right? We have time to come up with another way. There has to be another way! Doesn't there?"
She looks at me with the most desperate look I've ever seen. Her eyes are red and bloodshot from crying, and her hair is completely disheveled, but she's never looked more beautiful.
And I'm not about to let her die.
"No, this is the only way. I'm not going to risk your life by waiting for another solution. I love you too much."
"Donnie!"
She's on top of me, her arms wrapped around my chest in a death grip.
"Please! Don't do this. I can't handle being alone."
Something Grandma Death told me flashes through my mind.
"Every living creature on earth dies alone."
There's a sound coming from outside. It's repeating itself over and over again, coming closer each time it sounds.
It's a car horn.
FRANK'S CAR HORN!
"Gretchen! You have to get out of here! Now!"
I try to shove her off me, but she won't let go.
"Not without you."
"No! You have to survive! Remember when you asked me about going back in time and making things better? That's what I'm doing now. The world will be a much better place with you in it. Gretchen, you're m-"
A harsh cracking noise shatters the silence as the jet engine plummets through the ceiling. One of the wooden planks is thrown across the room and pierces its target.
"M-my….cellar……door…"
Emergency vehicles from all the stations within twenty miles of the town are gathered at the Darko residence. Nothing like this has ever happened before. After the movement of a large amount of rubble, the rescue team finally finds what they're looking for. But they all struggle to hold back tears.
Because lying on the utterly destroyed bed, are a boy and a girl, arms wrapped around each other. The plank that so mercilessly took their lives holds them together.
A/N: After seeing the scene of Donnie's actual death that was taken out of the original movie, this story idea just kind of popped into my head. Please review!
