Setting: This story takes place a year after Bella gets changed into a vampire, she now can control her blood lust so it's safe to be around Charlie.
Bella smiled, her face, and body now held a beauty beyond comparison. Her and Edward were seated on the couch back at Charlie's house. Charlie continued gawking at Bella as though it were a stranger that just magically appeared there. You couldn't quite blame him though; Bella's transformation from a clumsy awkward pale teenager to an incredibly gorgeous, even more pale, woman was incredible. Just when Bella was feeling fidgety, the door rang.
"I didn't know you were expecting anyone dad" Bella said, her voice taking a new hypnotizing tone from before, one Charlie couldn't believe belong to his kin.
Charlie grunted, heaving himself from the couch, finally breaking his gaze from Bella. It seemed he was still partly holding a grudge after Bella and Edward's surprise announcement of their wedding last year. Bella heard his footsteps like thundering smacks with a sledgehammer. She winced, not use to such loud footsteps. It appeared to Bella that Charlie was walking in slow motion. She knew it wasn't so, that it was her own eyes that had grown faster.
"It's hard to get use to, but you'll get the hang of it." Edward said, glancing down at her and giving her her favorite crooked smile.
"It's strange being back here. So many-" Bella cut herself off, a scent reached her nose as Charlie opened the door and the sound of pouring rain filled the house. She glanced up to see Edward's nose wrinkled as well and recognition flickered in her mind. "-memories" she finished her sentence. She'd seen Edward do this before. But only when they were about to encounter…she didn't need to finish the thought because at that moment she heard his voice.
"Hey Charlie, Billy didn't feel up to a ride over here, so I thought I'd drop this off." Jacob's hesitant voice said from the doorway, probably picking up on me and Edward's scent. A scrapping fallowed that Bella recognized as Jacob handing Charlie a wrapped package.
"Hey Jake, I got a visitor you might want to see, it's been a while, come on in."
"No, no that's ok; I should get back to Billy."
"I'm sure he can wait, just for a little bit." Charlie replied, trying desperately to get Jake in the house to see Bella, probably trying to check and see if he was truly sane and that the beautiful women sitting on the couch was indeed his daughter.
Edward glanced down at Bella, and not needing to say a word, they rose from the couch to stand behind Charlie. Charlie jumped, finally catching the movement, surprised with the lack of sound of their approach. Bella was surprised herself, Jake seemed so impossibly tall, her nose burned and her instincts told her she needed to take a step back. Jake loomed above Edward, but he was not even paying attention to Edward or even Charlie anymore. Jacob was all eyes for Bella, his breath caught and his eyes widened, blinking continuously, trying to dispel what he thought was an allusion. But Bella remained there, beautiful as ever. His nose, too, was wrinkled. His hair and clothes were drenched and Bella started worrying that he'd catch hypothermia before remembering he wasn't human again.
"Jake…" Bella whispered, her voice thick with the bittersweet sound of pain, just loud enough for him to catch.
Jacob stared for a moment longer before turning on his heals with a look of pure agony and jogging to his car, the rain running down his brown skin.
Bella stood still, not daring to run after him. She knew that if she had not been transformed, a tear would surely be racing down her cheek.
To be continued…
