Bailey stared at the little stick in her hand waiting for the results. How could one little stick make her future hang in the balance? How could it change everything in one 1 minute? She glanced down and saw the last thing that she expected.
A small plus sign appeared on the test.
She was pregnant.
A slow smile formed on her face. She cupped her stomach unconsciously. She was going to have a baby. She was going to be a mother. Toby was going to be a father.
She froze.
Oh God, Toby. How on earth was she going to tell him? She knew he loved her. They were talking about getting engaged after all. But Bailey's mind raced at the many possible reactions that Toby would have about her pregnancy. Would he be happy? Would he ask her...to get rid of their child?
Her smile fell. God, she thought, I really need to tell him.
He called her, asking to see her. She said yes immediately, though she still wasn't sure how she was going to tell him.
Toby picked her up around 7, and Bailey told Gram not to wait up. Gram had smirked and said, "I never do, dear."
Toby opened the door for her, took her to the nicest restaurant in town, and now they were in the park where they met. He had a blanket spread out on the grass, and they laid down to look at the stars.
This is it, Bailey thought. This is the time to tell him.
She turned to him but before she could say anything, Toby started to speak.
"I love you so much, Bailey. Please marry me," he said, pulling a ring out of his pocket.
Bailey lost her words for a moment. She beamed at him. "Yes."
Then Toby kissed her, and she momentarily forgot the world.
When they parted, Bailey decided that now was the time. "Toby, there's something I need to tell you."
His brow furrowed for a moment and he asked, "What is it?"
"I'm pregnant."
There was silence for a moment before Toby smiled.
"You're not...mad?" Bailey asked, biting her lip.
"Mad!" Toby exclaimed in disbelief. "How could I ever be mad at you, Bails? You're going to make me a father."
He leaned in and kissed her. Bailey couldn't have imagined a more perfect night, full of wonderful surprises.
