Dipper had been away from home for too long. After his job in Texas was done, he was going right home. He missed Mabel and Lilly too much. His job has him traveling more and more and he didn't like it at all. He missed having Mabel lying next to him in bed. He missed Lilly jumping up and down on the bed, cheering, "Wake up! Wake up!" Curse Oregon for not having any more mysteries to be discovered. At least then it would have been closer to home. But here he was, lying in his hotel bed, just missing his girls.
He reached for the phone and dialed the number. He just wanted to hear her voice. After the ringing, "Hello?"
"Mabel?"
"Dipper! Oh it's so good to hear your voice!"
"You have no idea how great it is to hear yours."
"How's work going, honey?"
"I'd much rather not talk about work. I'm actually calling for a favor."
"Oh, and what's that?"
Dipper savored the very sound of her voice. He missed it so much that he almost broke a tear just by the very sound of her talking to him. He heard it in her voice as well. She missed him too. The distance was just too much on the both of them. When he gets home, he's taking time off to be with her. But he still needed the favor.
"Can you tell me you love me?"
"Dipper, I love you so much…I miss you."
"I miss you too."
"I wish you were here. I need to be in your arms."
"And I need you to be in mine."
That's when he heard it, the sweet laughter. It was his little girl. That's when his eyes began to water. The sound of Lilly laughing and playing in the background was sweet music to his ears. He then heard a clattering on the line.
"Daddy?"
"Yep, it's me, sweetie."
"Daddy! I miss you!"
"I miss you too."
"When are you coming home?"
He knew he'd be leaving Dallas in the morning, but it wasn't soon enough. He needed them, they needed him. He wanted to make sure that he left something for them that night that would sustain them until he was home, but what could he possibly say? How could he ease them?
That's when he began to sing to them the first thing that came to his mind.
I'm already there, take a look around. I'm the sunshine in your hair, I'm the shadow on the ground, I'm the whisper in the wind and I'll be there until the end. Can you feel the love that we share? Oh I'm already there.
I'm already there.
