The Hiding and the Seeking
There was silence in the room. So quiet you could hear their breath like small windstorms blowing through the dark, dank room. Nothing moved except for the ragged drawing of breath. The air was tense with emotion, unspoken, but palpable by both people. Their surroundings were dark and dank, neglected by time and abandonment, rain and winds having torn it apart in care's absence. In short, it was unlivable for even the most unsanitary of creatures.
"Why are you here," came the hoarse, strangled whisper in the near black room. The question held a myriad of emotion: surprise, anger, disbelief, but above all, it sounded relieved. The hidden man was relieved to be found by one who would do no more harm than good.
"I came to bring you back," was the calm answer in reply. The finder was in no danger, he was more experienced than his counterpart, and he held himself calmly, yet gravely. The man across from her recoiled as if struck.
"Bring me back to where?" He growled menacingly. Either way it would be bad: a traitor to both sides had nowhere to return to.
"I won't hurt you," The finder whispered gently, as if to a wounded and snarling animal.
"It's not you I'm worried about," the other said, this time matching the quiet tone.
"I won't let the others hurt you either. You haven't done anything… not really. They will listen to me," the finder assured, crossing closer to the other man. This time, he did not recoil.
"Really?" the hider asked uncertainly. He shut his eyes as a hand came up go silently caress his cheek: a tender, surprising gesture. It was loving, a deep affection that was unexpectedly laced in with the usual comfort.
"Really," he replied, a smile curving his lips.
For the first time since the night on the astronomy tower, Draco Malfoy looked into the eyes of one Harry Potter, and smiled warmly.
"Alright," he said, wrapping his arms around his old lover. "I trust you."
