A/N: hi everyone!!!! this is my absolute first ShikaxTemari. i hope that you all like it!!! this will b dedicated to my friend Dylan who had the guts to ask me to the homecomming dance a few weeks ago. thanks Dylan- that meant a lot to me. : )
Birds chirped happily overhead while the wind danced playfully; it seemed as though everything in the Land of Fire was happy about the upcomming annual festival. Shikamaru lay down on the soft grass, and stared into the cloud- strewn sky. True, he wasn't planning on going (too troublesome) but what was more troublesome was having to listen to everyone else who was talking endlessly about it.
He counted off the names of the couples he knew were going… Neji and Tenten, Kiba and Hinata, Naruto and Sakura- his thoughts came to an abrupt halt as he felt a strong chakra presence approach him. Cautiously he looked over, and saw the sand ninja Temari laying down beside him. His eyes widened in shock. He hadn't seen the fan- wielding kunoichi for a long time… too long… he thought subconciousy.
"Hey, what are you doing here?" he asked, while proping himself up on his elbows. Temari smirked before answering him:
"Watching the clouds. Tch, and they call you a genius." Shikamaru took no notice of the jab at his intellecuality, but only raised his eyebrows. "Garra has to meet with the Hokage, so we're staying here for a few days. I heard there was a festival coming up… we might be able to stay for that , but I wouldn't have anyone to go with, and it's a couples- only thing, right?" at this, she looked back at the sky, closing her eyes to the bright sun. Shikamaru lay back down as well. It's so troublesome… but if she's only going to be here for a few days, then…
"Wanna go with me?" the words fell out of his mouth rushed but perfectly clear. Temari looked over at him, and said:
"Sure, I'd like that." Before kissing him fleetingly on the cheek.
"Troublesome woman," Shikamaru mumbled to himself as the two smiled and snuggled closer to each other under the clouds.
