A/N: This is a little one-shot that I thought up during class the other day. It's kind of AU...Just saying.

Please enjoy!

Disclaimer: I do not own Merlin.

He sees her from across the room.

Her green eyes fill with mirth as she laughs with the nobles seated around her, winning them over with her charm and beauty.

He stares in awe as the candlelight lights up her porcelain skin.

Then by chance those green eyes meet his blue ones.

A connection is made.

Two destinies entwined.

A love that would soon consume all.

Two lovers meet in the night, darkness hiding their forbidden affair.

Moonlight bathes them in its pure light, revealing their identities.

Porcelain fingers tangle in raven hair.

Ruby lips hungrily and yet lovingly kiss a pale neck.

The quieted sighs and whispers of their love-making are the only noise in her chambers.

When blue eyes meet green, both are consumed with the heat of their passion.

Both unknowing of what would soon unfold.

Fire runs through her veins, the life-giving water the cause.

She gasps for breath, pale fingers clutching helplessly at her throat.

Those terrified orbs meet steely blue ones; those were not of her lover.

Not of her friend.

He suddenly kneels by her.

She pushes him away, afraid of his next action.

He gently takes her in his arms, himself seeking comfort as much as she.

Curled into his chest, she breathes her last, those porcelain lids forever closing her green eyes.

The poison consumed her.

She returns to the place she once called home, but now she has no home.

This place is her prison, constantly tormenting her with ancient memories of warmth, friendship, and love.

She has none of these things now; the poison had made sure of that.

She hurts those closest to him, those she once called "friend."

She hurts them to hurt him, for no matter how much evil had consumed her soul, she could not harm him.

He watches helplessly as her anger manifested itself around him.

Buildings burned, soldiers fell, innocents slaughtered.

He had eagerly awaited her return, needing to see her chest rise and fall with breath and her green eyes filled with life once more.

But though she had returned, she had changed, the beauty corrupted by his betrayal.

His guilt consumes him, knowing that he is responsible for the fate of his kingdom, for the darkness that now cloaks his former home.

As he watches his king fall before her, green eyes flashing to gold, she turns her porcelain face, green eyes meeting blue ones once more.

For a moment, both are transported back to that night so many years ago, music and laughter replacing the cries of terror that now surround them.

But only for a moment.

Coming back to the present, both regard the other warily.

"Merlin."

"Morgana."

Those two lovers could never have foreseen what they were destined to face.

Death.
