A Matter of Reflection
Inspector Javert was reflecting his own human being.
He wasn't a churchgoer, but the words of the Holy Bible were the vertices of his life as well as the articles of law.
He didn't attend any service, but sometimes he spoke to the Lord in silence.
But what to confess? There wasn't any sin committed by Inspector Javert.
The seven deadly sins didn't affect him. He wasn't proud, lazy or avaricious etc. Well, he was curious, but curiosity wasn't a sin. And, of course, argued Inspector Javert with himself, he was curious according to the letter of the law only.
