Sure, there were times when she'd had her doubts, times when she wanted to leave it all. Times when she wanted to have a normal life, without the fate of the entire world staring at you from behind your shoulder. Times when she wanted to stay all day in bed, times when she wanted to go out for a drink with her friends. Times when she wanted nothing but a normal, average, life.

But then they always managed to pull her back in. Their jokes, their camaraderie, their friendship. Never had she been so close to anyone as she had them. They were like family to her. She could never, ever, get as close to anyone else as she was to these people. She knew that no matter what, no matter how bad things got, that they'd be there for her. She could always count on that.

And she'd never feel as comfortable here as anywhere else. Never mind the fact that they were stuck under tonnes and tonnes and tonnes of rock, but here all her friends were. Here is where the General was. Here is where Daniel and Teal'c were. Here is where Janet was. Here is where Jack was…

She could always count on a laugh from Jack, on comforting words from Daniel, of total friendship from Janet, on unspoken words of reassurance from Teal'c and of the highest praise from the General. But even those not in her immediate circle were the best people she'd ever meet. Walter and Siler, without whom the entire Stargate Program would grind to a halt, provided much help, and an unusual friendship (as well as the betting pool). She'd never known better backup than Reynolds, or as caring a Pentagon officer as Davis.

She loved all these people. She knew she could depend on them, she knew she could trust, literally, her life to these people. These people where the most kind, caring, and loving people she'd ever meet. Who needs a normal life when you've got all this?

'Sam…' Daniel said, knocking on the door-frame.

This was the best place to be at, anywhere…

'Sam…' Daniel said again.
'Uh, what?' Sam responded.
'What's up?' Daniel asked.
'Oh, nothing. Just… working,' Sam said.
'Alright. Well, I haven't seen you out of your lab all day, so I brought along something to keep you from starving to death,' Daniel said, putting down a large cup of Jell-O, blue, naturally, in front of Sam.
'Oh, Daniel, thank you!' Sam said, and stood up to give Daniel a hug.
'You're welcome. Don't work yourself to death,' Daniel said, leaving Sam to her work.
'Don't you worry,' Sam said.

The best place in the Universe. By far.
